While clan mechs/weapons are significantly better and clan Jade Falcon is a lot of fun to RP, the best reason to go clan is to kill Comstar, again and again and again! <_<

just my 2 cents, but if/when they open the Clan's route, I hope they make the player start over from ZERO (at least from mech experiance) and make it hard/serious consideration decision for people to go down that route.

The problem with that is it could be seen as punishing older players who started playing before the clans where released.

I'm not worried. PGI has thus far shown so many great, creative design desicions , they have garnered so much community good will they are in the zone of companies like Valve, and Blizzard. You just know they are going to create a quality product.

No worries. MWO is in good hands with people like Bryan, Russ, Paul , Matt N, Matt C, Kyle, Larry, Moe, Curly, Smurfette, Liono, Mum-Rah, He-Man, Skeletor, Huey, Dewey, Lewey, The Stay Puff Marshmellow man, Captain Kirk, and Wil Wheaton.

I think that if players are to go Clan, the devs need a way to enforce zellbringen somehow. Otherwise, it will be far too easy to run around like an IS surratt with an overpowered 'mech. This could get messy, but I am confident PGI will come through!

I guess that's why I'm also hoping we don't see a lot of gauss weapons. Luckily we're at a time period that won't inflict us with goofy stuff like MRMs and such.

Oh come on...Gauss weapons are cool. Granted it's a weapon that takes time to recycle, but if you combine it with LRM's and an AC, you've got a wicked package.

I like the idea of becoming a bondsman, then working your way up thru second tier ranks until you can be a full blown Clan mech warrior after taking and passing a trial of position just like in the books. I sure hope they have a way for the clan to bid, as well as have to defend second tier worlds with less than front line omni mechs.

I will stick inner sphere unless you can do it bondsman style. Then the roleplay would make it worth it if handled right.

That would be the point, personally I feel like there's going to be a mass exodus of player to the clans side when it comes out

Perhaps I know I was one of the few in MW4 that stuck to puretech IS 'mechs despite the penalties. Hopefully they might just have the tech balanced better or use some other method of balancing the stack rather than necessarily bunishing players. If at all possible I'd rather people be able to play what they like.

Quite possible. And as long as the game features Clan vs Clan matches, it wont be a big problem. But if not...it might happen that Clan players will have to wait some time for matches (or in the worst case, wont find anyone to play with at all).

I have no urge to join the Clans, I will remain a loyal son of Davion. However, there is one huge balancing issue for Clan players that hasn't been brought up, and can't be answered until we know what game rewards (XP / C-Bills) are going to be like per match.

Cost.

Clan tech is EXPENSIVE. Massively expensive. And the player will be responsible for purchasing and repairing those 'Mechs. Some examples:
Fire Moth Prime - 4,208,800 c-bills. Locust LCT-1V - 1,512,400 c-bills.
Shadow Cat Prime - 11,785,510 c-bills. Hatchetman HCT-3F - 3,129,390
And, my personal favorite,
Timber Wolf Prime - 24,233,124 c-bills. ATLAS AS7-D - 9,626,000 c-bills.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that, chances are, IS players will probably make enough to repair/refit after almost every match if they play smart, or at least be able to run another chassis for a game or two to get their most damaged 'Mechs back up and running. For Clanners, it could take considerably longer, especially if they get their ride shot out from under them. Again, all of this depends on how rewards are handled, but I simply don't see several million c-bills awarded every match.

Well, imo, they mentioned that there will be special wolrds reserved for progressing the story. I think those world will be heavily involved durring the clan invasion. going to one of those worlds will allow you to either 1) be captured as a bondsman. 2) later on in the invasion, challenge for a trial of possition in the clans. Afterword, when you have joined your repective clan *cough cough*wolf*cough cough* you can aid in the invasion on the story based worlds or fight the other clans for possesion of old star league worlds/outposts. thus you wont really have to fight IS players with weaker tech until after the invasion is over and the IS has brought their tech up to par using clan-tech.

Oh now THAT sounds like a really cool setup. I that would be a really fun storyline. If you find any more of these mentions... let us know, Okay?

3049, is the year before the clans are first spotted in the outer borders of the IS, remember, the galaxy is a big place, it takes months to cross factional space when you have permission, it takes alot longer when you have to fight and keep a supply line open behind you.

the clans want to strike at terra, terra is the hardest target to get to in all the IS, its essentially the center of the IS. even with all the lostech lost in the succession wars, once the clans begin their harder pushes in the mid 3050's the IS are salvaging and reverse engineering it, and the new clan techs, and building new omni mechs to equal clan machines and updating ones like the atlas to the atlas II

all that said, as long as the game is running in real time, 3055 is when we see IS omnis hitting production and major updates to old designs.

bondsmen isnt practicle, esp with mercs, they dont follow an honor code, only greed. but they do salvage, and anyone attacking as a clan does bid low (say 1 star of clan mechs vs 4 lances of 3049 grade IS).

itll be interesting to say the least to see how PGI handles it, but they have years to do it too.

They should go with the "Monster Play" method from LotRO.

Player controlled Clanners could be non line troops, making them having sub standard gear and skills ;)

Plus all the line troops with be apart of the invasion!

Something else to consider. They said no mech or equipment will be limited to one group. Why assume this doesn't apply to clans as well? Maybe when the time comes we will ALL be able to get clan tech. If there is the ability to play a clanner then they would likely just be much cheaper for clanners.

This makes the most sense. Please everyone. Play the faction that calls to you. Play the mech you enjoy. Crush your enemies without mercy!!! Happy days all around.

They could always go the City of Heroes style on it... you have to get an IS pilot up to X "level" before you can unlock the ability to play a Clanner, the way that CoH did with the Peacebringers and War... um... somethings (it's been a while). That way they can be assured that there will always be IS players.

We probably spent an hour talking about this the last time the GDL met up... yeah, it was good discussion.
We brought up the potential for bondsmen, for enforcing zellbrigen (as in, the Clan way of earning points, rather than just following the Commander's orders), all sorts of things.

Hrmmm, playing IS, then being captured and made Bondsman by the Clans could be interesting.

I would have to agree. But really I think there would have to be some level of choice as to if a player stays with the IS, merc or joins a clan and there should also be a choice to leave either one for another resetting any reputation points that a player gets, making them repent for the sin of leaving the faction to join another then come back.

just an idea

Those of us who normally play clan will switch as soon as we can regardless of the game mechanics involved, and I am sure that those who play IS will stay with IS. So, there will be a "mass exodus" of sorts, but I don't think it will be a problem.

Just a thought... For those who like the Clanner Factions you could Join MWO as a Merc unit and play for a year until the Clans come into the mix. That way no one really looses members in the IS. I would hate to see a bunch of members join the IS and a year later or when the game allows the Clans all join the clans which leaves the IS short on members. Makes Cohesion with in the lances difficult.
