Nope. Mechs have hands for very good reasons, those reasons just don't translate to the game.

Here is how I see hands. They are, to my eyes, odd. However, I am in favour of them because the original designs have them, as such, these incarnations should too. But remember not all mechs have hands. :)

Just my view. :)

so then leave them out of the game like they always have. Just because something is one way does not mean it should be that way. Hands are just plain silly and pointless, but it makes some people happy. All that said; at least blowing that arm off the Trebuchet will destroy allot of weapons and make me happy :)

Mechs with hands are part of the universe. You don't like it, go find another universe.

I'm not sure what the big deal is. Mechs with hands have been in the game since the beginning.

Plus, if the devs find a way to implement close combat, there would be all kinds of rage threads like: "Dammit, why don't any of these mechs have hands, so I can punch another mech!" Look also at BT TRO's, and you'll see a LOT of mechs with hands, it's part of the canon/lore of the game. Get used to seeing them, because there are a metric crap-ton of mechs that have hands.

They just make it harder to envision the mech as an actual military machine. Because well, they are silly.

Your hand..... I do not like it.

In all seriousness though the hands on many of the mechs are iconic to the game. If the Atlas had cannons instead of hands..... well.... it wouldn't be an Atlas. Some mechs have hands others do not. They have their uses, but you have just never seen them being used in the shooter versions of Mechwarrior. That doesn't mean that they are not used all the time in other game settings.

They're not odd at all, many old tabletop scenarios would involve "smash and grabs" where a lance would attack a supply depot or something, grab a few shipping containers of supplies with their hands, and run off before an enemy lance could respond.

Hands are also useful in combat, they can deliver punches (which had a 16% chance of scoring a valuable head hit) and let you uproot trees (or blown off mech arms!) and use them as bludgeoning objects.

They can also be used to dig, assisting field engineers in hastily making trenches and other earthworks fortifications.

They're also really useful for if you get swarmed by Elementals! Get them off! Get them off! getthemoff getthemoffgetthemoffgetthemoffgetthemoff.

The catapult doesnt have hands, neither does the Jenner. Why do you dislike hands? -1 for short OP.

Hands are usefull for more than just trench digging and or picking up crates.... Picking up salvage from the battlefield or if your piloting an Atlas you might want to pick up other mechs........ they make great throwing weapons.

yeah but trench digging, picking up crates, picking up salvage, picking up anything at all is not part of the game and wont be, its just not applicable here at all in any sense of the word.... except picking fights on the forums of course. :)

They may not be part of the game mechanics, but they are part of the game's aesthetic. A lot of old innersphere mechs have hands, and thus far the game's entire mech line up are innersphere mechs.
