So they found a Star League Store House....
I realy realy don't like the thought of Highlander and other ComStar only Battlemechs getting in Player Hands because its COUNTER CANON.
But this may be the prequell or the start of constant reasoning why Mechs like Highlander KingCrap and so on turn up in Player Hands.
:o :(

Or in other words this would be totaly not funny.

Except that ComTard was not the only one with Highlanders. Most of the houses had at least a few, there was at least one factory that never stopped making them, and with the finding of the "lostech" the production rate was cranked up. While ComTard did have a bunch in storage it was in no way a ComTard only mech.

Have none of you been paying attention to ANY of the previous ISN News Flashes? This is 'flavour text'; it's here to help you immerse in the milieu of the game, and hint at upcoming events in the timeline.

I'm willing to wager the SL cache is likely MinerMechs and similar - likely useful for Inner Sphere civilization in general (maybe a SL lostech first aid kit or medical manual that 'contemporary' doctors and surgeons can learn from, or similar in GENERAL industrial processes) but the odds that it's going to have ANYTHING that would be of direct aid to us front-line soldiers? Well, don't take your paycheque with you to Dustball...not if you expect to KEEP any of it. :(

C.M.O. 26
Founded by the defunct Commonwealth Mining Corporation, which collapsed
amid scandal during the Second Succession War, the system is simply known
as Commonwealth Mining Outpost 26 (C.M.O. 26). Its focus is a large,
lifeless tide-locked rock laced with titanium, platinum and countless
other minerals ripe for industrial use. Domed settlements on the night
side of the heavy-gravity (twice Terran-standard) planet form the heart of
this corporate mining colony, but to take advantage of valuable ores found
in the outer planets, moons and asteroid fields, several spaceborne
habitats were also established, including the eventual system capital of
Gulf Breeze Station, an ancient Star League-era facility massing 930,000
tons and capable of sustaining a population of 50,000 military and
civilian personnel.
Gulf Breeze Station became the major waypoint for all in-system travel
after the collapse of CMC, when local mining colony leaders elected to
remain in the system and eke out a living on their own. These intrepid
miners continue to plumb the depths of their worlds and asteroids for
riches they now trade to keep their thriving colonies well fed and well
fueled.
Gulf Breeze station hosts the headquarters of Nashan Mining, a division of
Nashan Diversified.

Firstly: 'tis interesting to note that C.M.O. 26 is apparently a heavy-gravity (2g) terrestrial planet.
Might this ever be reflected in MWO as an adverse modifier on 'Mech movement rates (limits on ground speed, arm convergence speed, and so on)? :(

Secondly: the aforementioned Star League facility may be the same one in which 'Mechs fight in Caustic Valley... or it may be on the other side of the planet. So it's entirely possible that there may be nothing for players to find in-game... or is there?! :o

Thirdly: both the above quotation and the Caustic Valley video/write-up indicate that the planet is generally lifeless (excluding the Space Dwarves miners who eke out their living there). Yet, there are very clearly trees on the planetary surface (seen most clearly at the 0:43-0:45 segment of the Caustic Valley video)...?

I don't get what these ISN news flashes are about. As far as I can tell this is all just imaginary whitewash that has nothing to do with this beta or its game play. This isn't a book or a movie. Why not post a "news flash" about a new tactic or a different way of doing something in the game. Pretending the back story is real is a little too over the top IMO.

The Basilisk:
Just because a mech is traditionally piloted by Comstar pilots, does not mean you couldn't get your hands on one. Obviously, you could earn one through salvage, or perhaps even through payment for a job assuming you are in good relations with Comstar, etc.

You're right on the salvage thing but you haven't considered the Timeline. And no, the only incedent known of when ComStar was giving Battle Technology out of Hands was 3039 when they shared the downgraded Kintaro and the Crockett with House Kurita. At the moment ComStar hasn't revealed the true strength of the ComGuards as you may know them.
For the 4 Successor States the ComGuards are no more than some watchman with little in Mechs.
Nobody knows of the vast army Comstar trained in on earth and of the endless rows of losstech Battlemechs slumbering for centurys on earth.
Then suddenly before the Battle of Tukayyid Wolf Clan Wolfnet estimated the total strength of the ComGuards military to over 50 Regiments in Battlemechs. A Successor state of the time had around 80 Regiments in combined arms.
Next thing is there were no fights between Comguards and other Forces since 3004 (unmapped star somwere in the periphery tracking down some bandits who dared to attack some Comstar installation) The ComGuards of 3049 are regardet as something comparable to the UN-Blue Helmets peace force. They are aiding in natural desasters. Negotiating in planetary conflicts and are all in all neutral and pacifistic to a point near passivity.

Reread your sources. The last production facility was extinct roughly 200 years ago. At the moment none of the TRO 2750 Mechs are produced by the Successor states.

Highlanders were produced in a slightly downteched version all the way through the Succession Wars, until the tech recovery of the 3040s.

Incorrect. -733 Highlanders were rebuilds from nearly-trashed older chassis by Hollis, and as of 3033, StarCorps was able to produce "new" -733's on Son Hoa as well. The KTO-18 downteched Kintaro remained in production by General Dynamics. Likewise, Kurita also produces a downteched Lancelot. Irian produces a downteched Guillotine sporadically all the way up to the "current day". Defiance produces a downteched Flashman. TRO 3039.
