Considering that the Star league did its best to destroy and humiliate the periphery states for no other purpose than petty jealousy its amazing an Amaris didn't happen sooner. The Star League was great for the five houses and everyone else could die on the vine, or take an orbital bombardment from the local AFFS naval unit.

Really, Amaris behaved just like Michael Cameron - except he didn't drop bombs exclusively on the Periphery states.

It's motivation and consequences that matter. Michael Cameron had a good motive, and the result was a golden age of humanity. Amaris only wanted to grab power, and the result was a disaster.

And who cares about "elections" anyway.

You guys do realize that within the canon Amaris wasn't just an usurper, but he created mass vaults which stored billions upon billions of C-bills worth of stolen artwork and possessions from everyday citizens, not even the great houses. The SLDF opened vaults to find rotten dead bodies everywhere, and some people within were still alive, if you could call it that. They survived off of eating the flesh of the dead inside these cavernous pits, their sanity practically gone without seeing day-light, or having proper nutrition.

The only thing misunderstood about Amaris was that the entire Inner Sphere did not learn of the atrocities he committed. Nothing that severe was committed since the Kentares Massacre, and even that pales in comparison to the scope for which Amaris committed these crimes.

No, he was made out to be the tyrant of that generation, and the last Cameron may have been an i-d-i-o-t, and many of them poor rulers, but NONE of them committed the atrocities that Amaris did.

You see, this is why a book like this is needed! For too long, the legacy of the sainted Amaris has been hidden away by biased "histories" that attempt to sully his legacy!

Amaris was merely a freedom fighter, attempting to fight for the good of his people against a corrupt and hypocritical Star League!

I propose that we sell billions upon billions of trendy "Amaris" T-shirts, so that they can become the symbol of a counter cultural youth who reject the society of their forefathers!

From what I can tell, the author wanted a great deal of publicity and controversy to surround his book in order to get sales and thereby get rich, so he chose this topic. Must have been a Steiner.

Amaris was a devious, conniving, unscrupulous man. He pretended to befriend the heir to the throne of the Star League and when the heir's father died he convinced him to send the Star League Defense Forces to the periphery worlds to "bring about order" while his own forces where brought in to "protect" the Star League in their absence. Once Alexander Kerensky and the main bulk of the SLDF had arrived in the periphery, he murdered the heir to the Star League his forces seized strategic positions and those SLDF forces left behind he could not beat in combat he ordered nuclear strikes against them. It took years for the SLDF under the command of Alexander Kerensky to fight their way back into the Inner Sphere and depose Amaris.
