I was watching the gametrailers interview with Russ the other day and one of the things they touched on was that the game is trying to focus more on the "Mechwarrior experience". You are not a machine but, the flesh and blood the resides within. That interview combined with the dropship esq teaser trailer and concept art got me thinking about contributing more to that overall experience.

Wouldn't it be cool that when you load the game up instead of being met with menus you are just instantly placed within your dropship, maybe on one of those in game rendered catwalks from the trailer overlooking the entire mech hanger. Now imagine you could move around those catwalks, maybe climb a later down to the maintenance floor or run around the upper deck as you admire the mechs in your collection. From here you could walk up any mech and "interact" with it. Pressing a button could bring up mini menus that act as your mech bay as the camera angle shifts from your perspective to that of viewing the mech. From here the hard point system could be implemented allowing you to modify your mech for future deployments. After you are done modifying you could maybe walk into a briefing room where you view the Innersphere map and see what territories are currently in need of the most assistance for holding off attacks from invading houses ( or clans).

... that's just to get your mind rolling

This is much in the vein of Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries where you had a "dropship" after each mission to come back to where you could modify your mechs, catch up on the news of the innersphere, etc etc. I think this would just be taking it to the next level. From the teaser trailer it is obvious that there are some in game assets (like the mechanics) that exist that could bring this to life.

I would also like to state that I am not looking for people to be able to customize their dropships like something out of the Sims, or Playstation home, for I believe that detract from the entire point of the whole thing. I would also like to state that I'm not looking for infantry combat or something similar to be implemented.

I think it would add to the experience if you were able to walk around these machines in a non-combat setting, walk a catwalk into them ( to get settled), and from there be met with a server menu to which when launch is clicked you feel like you actually have done everything a actual mechwarrior might have done (minus the boring eating, drinking, working out, etc etc)before they are hot dropping in this mech.

If you want to get more advanced with this concept........ if there is a "party" option in the game which lets you form game partys with your friends ( i.e battlefield 3 squads) you could all be on the same dropship before the launch of a game.

As always let me know what you guys think.

I wouldn't mind incorporating the drop ship environment into the various menus for the game, but I don't think I'd really want to walk around. Just let me get to where I want to go via menus or hotspots without having to walk/run over to something.

EVE Online did that whole walk around thing and it wasn't that impressive.

Basically, I'm imagining it how Mechwarrior 2 did it. Essentially, really swanky menus. In MW2 Mercs, when you went into the Mechlab area, you found yourself in a mech hangar with lots of mechs all over the place. The mission room had a desk with a computer terminal on it. The general lobby had a ComStar terminal that gave news information about recent happenings and recently released weapons and mechs.

So, you were still in only menus, but you felt much more engrossed in the experience. When you were in the Mechlab you'd hear the sounds of the hangar and whatnot. If you were in the lobby you'd hear crowds of people talking and stuff. Every time you moved between the areas the doors would play an animation and a sound. It was really well done.

That would suffice, I guess a fully realized hub would be the logical next step if you wanted it to be but, If they have something close to the way MW2 Mercs or even MW2 for the matter......would suffice....would suffice indeed.
