The US Army lists 16 "Principles of War and Operations", they are: Objective, Offensive, Mass, Economy of Force, Maneuver, Unity of Command, Security, Surprise, and Simplicity. Some have very limited application to MWO, others are very important. The one I'd like to point out is Mass. Which the Army defines as, "Concentrate the effects of combat power at the decisive place and time."
Even if only half the team does this it can be decisive. Coordinating teammates to regroup and attack together is probably the most important thing that one can do. Saying "Run the 3 line" is good, saying "Run the 3 line and regroup in F3" is better. Coordinating your 'group' so that everybody attacks the same point at the same time is the fastest way to victory. Calling targets is good, but if you place 8 people in the same location (and for Kerensky's sake give them all open lines of fire) most likely they will attack the closest target, thus naturally acheiving Mass.
This type of tactic requires information (and thus scouting, which the Army lists under 'Security') knowing where the enemy is, and thus where to mass your troops is where good scouts shine. Because (as above) regrouping in F3 might be silly if the enemy is in H7.
Lastly for those who decry that defense is valid, the army lists the principle as 'Offense', but their definition: "Seize, retain and exploit the initiative", leads one to believe a better term would be 'Initiative', nonetheless grabbing the initiative should always be something you should strive for. Whether you setup in a defensive or offensive position, you need to take out the enemy and quick and efficient manor. Once you start killing them, they should be allowed no respite.

Love this thread gave me a good hours reading at work... got to love that!
Really anxious for a cataphract write up!?!?
I run the Hero class with 3 UC AC/5's and 3 Mlasers... she is a serious brawler and love taking down heavy and assault mechs with her always dishing out atleast 300 dmg each battle.
This variant is very versatile you can pair up with a scout for ambush kills (very very quick kills when you open up ac chainfire on any mechs back armour)
As a support mech paired up with an Assault especially when using voice chat the added firepower and focus fire effect is devastating.
Due to the fact that you can lay down a lot of damage in a short period of time you can knock the enemies targeting by opening up the AC chainfire on mechs that have locked on to a team mate giving him/her enough time to recover reassess and return fire.
I have mlasers group 1 and chainfire the UC AC/5's Its like a AC machine gun critical hits every second cycle Lurv it.
I can write up a full report on this class but I have only been playing for about a week now so really dont have much to add to it other than the variant and load out i use.
Other than that i have seen a major improvement even without a Cataphract report by taking a few bits of info from here and applying it in game. Awesome work and cheers to all that have contributed.
See you on the battlefield.
