Its only now while looking through sarna wiki at the old mechwarrior vid games that I realized I have been at this mech playing business for twenty years now. From 5th grade to high school to college to career Ive been tearing up anything with mechs or anything similiar. Like "Earth Siege"(the go-bots compared to mechwarrior). I haven't played the board games but to my understanging its been arround for much longer. I wasn't aware of the rich back story (Canon). Through reading more its added a whole new level of depth to games I chewed through a long time ago.

How long have some of you all been playing?

It's been about 13 years.

First played Mechwarrior 3 when it was packaged with the Force Feedback joystick.

Felt good to have my first encounter with Battletech at the age of 5. Felt damn good.

Same here. I can still remember my anticipation for another mechwarrior title to come out after the Very First mechwarrior. The turn based Crescent Hawks games really wetted my appetite, but there is nothing like piloting the mechs yourself.

Yeah I remember when i was 12 and got our first computer after a few hours of actually figuring out how to do anything i installed the cool looking Demo called MechWarrior 2, wasn't long before I got myself a full copy of the game and have played everything ( well almost you know what I am talking about ) since so that puts me at 16 years of MechWarrior so I guess that qualifies me as a young old MechWarrior :D

The one I played the ever living @#$% out of was mechwarrior for snes. Its weird after this little reflection today I got a snes emulator. the **** is still fun same ol feeling customizing my loadouts. Plus when u go back to mwo from snes it will blow you away all over again. well worth the blink of the eye in dl time it took to get the rom. lol

i think it was 1993 or 1994 when i "accidentely" stumbled into the BattleTech Match of my pen&paper roleplaying friends (had just started playing Shadowrun as well)...

i was 16 or 17, and the universe catched me immediately.. i am still waiting for the epic cinema trilogy

wow this truly brings back memories. early 1992 i saw my Uncle playing Crescent Hawks Inception on his brothers Amiga 500. i was vaguely aware of the Battletech series but at the time it was Robotech that got me into all this "Robots with guns" thing. there were cut scenes of Robotech/Macross mecha specifically the VF-1S and i knew i had to play that game. My Uncle didn't really know what he was doing in that game but me and my brothers thrashed the blah out of that game even stealing off with the Chameleon as we ran from the Kuritans. i never played Mechwarrior 1 until a few years ago but i thrashed the blah out of the Mechwarrior 2 series. Absolutely hacking the mech data, making invulnerable 'Mechs and finding jumpjet bugs in the game. i miss the way you could choose any chassis and copy the loadout from another mech, i miss the ooomph of Mechwarrior3 PPC's but i love the way the new missiles have a ballistic trajectory that was my only real qualms about MW2 and MW3 the missiles were too simplified. Did anyone feel like the LRM's in 31st Century Combat used to slam a lot harder than the Clan LRM's in MW2 Mercs. sorry i better stop now cause i'm meandering
