Those who desire power should not have it.

Not only this, but I'd also guess that 95% of the "here, pick me" shouters have no idea what they would be getting themselves into. Speaking as someone who was a GM in a MMORPG for 1.5 years and a forum mod for one. People tend to underestimate how annoying and tedious this job gets.

I personally wouldn't mind being a moderator, I have the free time to dedicate to it, and though I dont have much moderating experience(a single small forum that is now defunct), I have quite a bit of general foruming experience.

Ninja mods. :)

They're out there. Somewhere. Hiding in the code.
(I doubt they're picking from the community, guys. Seriously.)

:D

Ninjas are in our threads..moderating our posts? :D

While I doubt moderators are being picked at random from the posters currently here... if they are, I'd be willing to help out. :)

Being a moderator is thankless work. You'll be annoyed by trolls, called names (behind your back) by people who think their grievances are legitimate even though they stepped over the line and you did your duty. Some will resent you on principle because you have "power" (forgetting that there is responsibility too), and some will resent you simply because you represent authority.

Trust me. You don't really want to be a mod. Especially in an open forum like this, where everyone and their dog can join up and howl for attention.

Hey. I fit those requirements; I even have experience.
Alright you two who are starting that flame war, meet in a circle of equals, let combat be the judge.
===
Actually, that would be much easier than the reality. W ake up in the morning, 20 unread emails, 18 of which are reported posts forwarded to your mailbox.
UGH.

For some of us. MW2 was the first mechwarrior we played so we harbor warm feelings for the protagonists of that game. I suspect it's also the reason most people prefer Clan Jade Falcon or Clan Wolf.

I agree. If you THINK that you are a good choice for a moderator, then most likely you are not, mostly becasue you REALLY WANT to be. Most moderators I have had experience with are REALLY biased toward the content of their site and will ban/boot forum-goers for even the slightest things. If a community member here is a moderator, the expectation is that they are, by definition, unable to remain neutral.

My experience with becoming a moderator... don't ask. Generally, if you ask, you're not the type that admins want moderating their forums >.>
Of course, there are always exceptions, but that's how I've seen it done wherever I go >.>
Unless it's just some forum for a small group of people who know each other.
Anyway, glad to hear we'll have some ban-mop ninjas. Oh wait, that's LaCoil...

I will say I pity whoever ya choose already. I'm a board freak usually and I'll be danged if I can keep up with as many posts as this community is throwing out. As well this community unlike others doesn't usually slow down when they get rolling :) If you've ever seen BT boards prior to this you'll know what I mean ..we be crazy posters! :D

Might I also suggest that we install some rules of conduct? No leet or chat speak (U, ppl, that sort of thing), no swearing, no ad hominem attacks, all that?

I guess "soon" does not mean any specific time span, or does it?

Will only current staff ppl become a mod, or will there be volunteer mods out of community, too?
