Im not after playing against AI. I want it like the old days if possible, where I just buy the game and play online. Back then it was MGZ. Yea, it was a single player game back then but everyone was always online fighting. I want that aspect back.
see there is a difference between a singleplayer game with an multiplayer part that can be played online, and a 100% online game... this game will NOT be sold, the game itself is free, no monthly subscription, nothing...
but as you will understand, the company has to feed it´s employees and their little hungry babies, and needs at least some money income.. so there will be things that you CAN pay for, to have faster progress, to look cooler than anybody while pewpewing them to pieces and so on...
you will be able to play it without spending any money, but the company will "ask you gently" to donate here and there for their hard work to create a great MechWarrior game... that means, at some points they offer you the "easy way" or just some cool fluff items for money, and many ppl take it
i personally think, you will be okay with spending a few $ from time to time, i doubt that MWO will force you to spend lots and lots of money just to play a bit...

So gring to Atlas will take some time but mediums and heavies are easy to get.
a friend was in his centurion after a few hours of play as a total free player, yea the first few hours are a hill to climb, but after that it rolls^^ and btw, while in the trial mechs, you learn alot about heat management, movement and handling of different mechs and all that.. by the time you get to know each mech well, you should be able to buy your first "real" machine...
DON´T listen to all the beta veterans, many of them tend to cry about the "heavy grind" because the game was very very easy for testing purposes before, and they don´t need to "try the trial mechs" anymore, because they played in their maxed out Mechs already for weeks and month´s ... try it and make your own picture
