ok, i'm a backtrack a tad, but after playing my 4SP and 4P a bunch, i went back to re-unlock my 4G post beta reset and that thing feels seriously under gunned. i mean yea ok the AC20 packs a nice punch, but i remembered how i hated the over-reliance on it. only 3 other energy hard points don't do much for me. would be kinda nice to slap another energy hardpoint on each arm or hell would be cool to see a missile pod in the opposite torso. meh i'm just thinking out loud here.

As a new hunchie pilot, i am having trouble. Usually i play jenners 150kph or Atlas 49kph. I wondered why i was doing so bad and then realised my problem...

1. I am used to moving forwards agreesively as a jenner pilto as i can outrun 95% of all other mechs on the field that pose a threat to me.

2. As an Atlas pilot I am used to having the armour to weather the storm of fire at me.

So looking at that i realised i was throwing myself into situations that i didnt have the speed to escape from or the armour to survive. Now i am trying to hang back with the rest of the guys but its so hard to do as often the pugs just mill around or wander off along bad paths.

What I am saying is that now i know that the HBK has neither speed or armour compared to what am used to. i will play differently. just so hard when i can see the enemy..."just over there" and want to attack with my 9 med lasers but have to hold back cos the group isnt moving and don want to be baited. .

sometimes as far as being "baited" as a med you can at times "do" the baiting on them. most Assaults will usually be inclined to chase you. if you're taking on something like a stalker 1v1 and you have the magic fingers you can dance around behind it and it rarely ever gets a clean shot on yah.

also if you have the 4P there like "9 med lasers" sounds like, i've noticed that it makes a great late-mid game sweeper. an alpha on a damaged target can ruin their day. one match i came around on the enemy flank late match ran along and it was "Zap", dead. "Zap", dead. "Zap", dead. i ran across 3 messed up mechs in rapid succession. i think i did less than 100damage for the match and 3 kills.... i musta looked like such a kill stealer lol.

i just didn't like at times the over reliance of the weapons on the shoulder. (the 4G included). your shoulder lasers get knocked out and 3/4 of your firepower is just gone.

if you look back a bit i had a pretty good set up for a 4SP that i use as my primary Hunchie. fast and reliable in a pinch :ph34r:

Does the energy variant with ALL flamers work? I'm thinking of that for my next project as a scout toaster?
Do you like your spiders extra crispy?

not even sure Flamers will do any "real" damage honestly.

I absolutely love my HBK-4SP's ability to brawl effectively at close range, stand and guard a missile boat while offering additional long range support fire, and negate an enemy's ECM with TAG. It has the speed and armor to weather most things if played intelligently. Truly a versatile mech build.

kinda nice. not my thing, but having the long range to soften up a target before you close is good to have. its how i run my AS7-D. LRM on the way in and then hit the soft spot with the lasers.
all the close range weps on my 4SP don't usually put at too much of a disadvantage tho. it runs at 92.7 Kph so i can get in close fast. and it really seems to bother the lights when i can keep pace with them for a bit and mess them up :lol:. a speedy hunchie is a good light mech repeller and assault mech harasser

As a goof I made my 4P out with all flamers in the hunch and medium lasers in the arms. I took it out for a test on the practice mode (cuz I know better) and after approximately 3 minutes of sustained fire (not including cool down cycles, mind you) I managed to kill the trial commando. I summarily scrapped the build and wondered just how I could regain the 5 minutes of my life I had just wasted.

I enjoy my goofy Hunchback H. It's nothing special - Endosteel, 225 standard engine, AC10 and 3 medium lasers - but it is annoying. It's just fast enough to be a pest in close, or to do a bit of capping when I'm the lightest / fastest mech on the team, and the AC10 packs a nice, focused punch that I find lacking in the (otherwise better) Hunchback SP.

By all objective standards, the SP should be better - 4 medium lasers, 2 SRM 6's, and a standard 250 engine - but I've found that I've performed much better in my goofy H model. Maybe it's the better range of the AC 10 or it's focused damage, but that single ballistic slot can make a big difference. But again, your mileage may vary... Anything to get more folks trying out the Hunchback, which is arguably the most diverse chassis in the game.

As a HBK or other slow Medium I always find me the biggest and slowest 'Mech on my team and stick to it like glue. D-DC's preferred. No shame to even hide behind it. Fire support, it's not the most heroic role but important nevertheless.

225 standard seems a bit small - plus only 3 mediums..... I run this build as well with a 250 and 4 meds (in addition the ac ammo) - and like you said, is a good focused damage contributor. Heat is not really a factor with the increased engine/ml..... may want to give it a shot if u got the extra cash.

You can also fit an AC/20 in there too. I played around with the AC/10 for a while, but I just didn't like the damage. Yeah, I know, better range, faster reload, yadda yadda. There's just something so satisfying about running 90kph (with speed tweak) and - for all intents and purposes - a massive metal bat (AC/20) that rocks the world of any unsuspecting baddie that couldn't comprehend your ability to ruin their day. I can't stress this enough, try the AC/20. it feels so good. if anyone can't figure out how to make it work, message me and I'll send you the build on smurfy.

I'll have to look these ideas over - not sure how to cram all that stuff in there since an XL engine can't be the answer in a Hunchback (I'm assume) - maybe Ferro-Armor gives me the extra weight I need... Hmmm... thanks for getting me thinking about this!

Okay, now that I'm home from work... Yep, Ferro + Endo gives me enough tonnage for a 250 engine, 3 medium lasers, and an AC20 + 3 tons of ammo or an AC10 + 3 tons of ammo and an AMS with 1 ton of ammo.

I'm goofing around with the AC20 build now. It is very funny having a huge gun running at over 80 kph. Got the only kill in a disaster of a game, but that was still funny - said "hi" to a Quickdraw with an AC20 in the back.

Either build works - the AC20 hits harder, while the AC10 + AMS is a bit more well-rounded and the ammo lasts longer. Both are fun!

Totally right and another important rule for all new Hunchie pilots out there. Never put an XL Engine in a Hunchback!
Why? Because that big hunch has "SHOOT ME" written all over it. Usually it's gone first, because it's so easy to hit and contains a bulk of your weaponry. Every decent enemy will aim for it. Since it is on your right torso, you'll be dead as soon as it's gone, if you use an XL engine.
Also the max engine rating on all hunchbacks is currently a meh 260, which means 84 km/h is the limit (93 with speed tweak). As a Hunchie you'll never be fast enough to avoid getting hit. So better prepare to loose some limbs and make sure you can fight on.

Just last game I aimed for a hunchie's hunch and he died instantly because of an XL engine. Or maybe ammo explosion. You shouldn't put your ammo there either.

agreed there, even if you're not using a hunchie with that target on your shoulder like the 4SP. the mech has way to broad a front side to keep an XL protected. even with the standard 260. 93kph is plenty fast enough for a medium with the weapons load that sucker carries

I have just gone back to my founders Hunchie and there is nothing more satisfying than one shotting a jenner with an ac/20.
I love the ac/20, hang about with the big guys and run around the back of the other big guys and blast em apart ;)
