DDC = best brawler in the game.

Against Mechs other than the Atlas-RS setup for brawling in close it is good, but I use to Melt D-DCs down while I was still running my RS all the time, I bought back my D-DC to try ECM and use that more now with a longer range weapon setup so I don't get caught in Alpine with a medium range setup. The D-DC could throw good numbers, but when it ran out of ammo it was looking at 10 to 18 damage tops with just the energy weapons (non PPC).

Don't get me wrong the D-DC is pretty dang good, but I could throw down big numbers (damage) all day long, overheat less with the RS, but sadly the RS had its day, the D-DC has replaced it against (OTHER) Mechs..

Where's the love for the Atlas K..??? LOL

If you want to brawl DDC is by far the best choice, heck imo the only atlas that can compete for even being driven other then the DDC is the RS for an energy centric build (better for mid range imo though).

My DDC Brawler:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b5e86b51aa7c7ba
- Use Large Lasers/UACs to poke while closing the gap, never fire lasers during actual brawl (unless u need burst) as the 2xUACS and 3xSRM6 will generate enough eat to allow continous fire without overheating (mostly).
- No Bralwer should ever run an XL engine that's suicide.
- Reason for LL over ML for the case when you loose a side torso (will happen a lot unless your enemy is crap) to have decent supplementary fire power.
- Each ton of SRM ammo [with 3xSRM6]= 5.5 shots, so you burn it very fast, if you live till the end of the round you should be out of ammo even with 4 tons

case stops you from losing the arm if they manage to tickle your ammo

Not quite.

If you have CASE protecting the ammo in your torso, when that ammo blows up it is going to destroy everything in that torso, CASE simply stops the damage transfer from then moving to the center torso. If you have an XL in your torso and the ammo is destroyed your engine is going to be destroyed, even with CASE.

And an ammo/gauss explosion which occurs in an arm will not transfer to the torso, so if you have ammo in your arm and no explodie bits in your LT/RT then you don't need CASE.

So you want to run a top notch Atlas Brawler. What's the best variant (hard points) to start with and what's your loadout?

Best variant without doubt is the D DC; this is due to ECM. As for builds, I've tried many. Double LBX isn't bad for a heavy shotgun, but you've got no range and will lose one almost immediately to RT damage. 1 AC 20 takes up less slots so it's safer, but you won't get as much burst. SRM stacking is also great since the weapon is OP due to a slash bug, but you'll have big issues vs fast targets. The Atlas does not have the speed of an A1 or Medium. But you could also try out PPCs, ER PPCs, or a Gauss Rifle.

This is my current D DC build:
LLx2, UAC5x2, STRx3. The Streaks stomp the lights. The lasers are flexible weapons for <450m. The double Ultras offer great bursts between jamming and can carry easily to 1km in long range shoot offs. I might drop one for an AC 5 however so I can get more ammo and keep firing it while the Ultra is jammed. Normal AC5 is a ton lighter, meaning switching to it would buy its own box of shots, and all my current Ultra rounds would then go solely to the other gun.

I see alot of these dual uac 5s, but in IMO a brawler atlas needs slow firing, heavy hitting weapons, using dual UACs requires to much exposure of your CT, to put out good damage numbers. I run an RS with quad LLs, Ac20, and 2 srm6 racks, pretty standard. But the cooldowns of all those weapons allows alot of twisting and turning to negate and spread alot of incoming damage. And never pack an XL into an atlas brawler...ever.

Also with the nurf of the triple splash of missiles coming soon, the DDC, will no longer be a brawling power house, and personally, I'd take the extra 2 arm energy slots over the DDCs hardpoints.

On a slighty unrelated topic, I find running my ddc with dual LLs, AC20, 2 srm 6 rack, and an LRM 15 to be more effective than the 3 srm racks option. You have the range on the LLs and LRMs to soften your targets whilst getting close, then surprising them with the dual srms and Ac20 up close.

Been considering a D or D-DC with 1xAC10, 1xAC5, 2x LRM15s, 4xMLs.

The AC10/AC5 combo should set up a pretty consistent shake for the target while putting down more consistent damage that UAC5s - that damn jam just doesn't work for a brawler. Too unreliable. I'm also finding that LRMs instead of SRMs for an Atlas isn't a bad idea. You're rarely the first one to the party and the ability to rain fire at range helps a LOT. The point being that you don't need the SRMs by the time you get to the brawl, you need the targeted damage of the ACs and MLs to finish what the LRMs started.

I'm also finding that while the AC20 is awesome, I love my 20, that slow fire delay can be a killer. There's times when you just need to put more pain in more expediently. It's the lack of maneuverability, you need to be able to more quickly exploit the opportunities you have since you don't control when your opportunities come up as well.

Finally there's the critical hit problem in an Atlas. You lose that AC20 pretty quickly. Having two ACs split that up is still going to leave you some THUMP at hand even after you get your chest bloodied up.

Try it. It's a little more complicated but I think you might like it. Since you're never using the MLs and the LRMs at the same time the heat is not an issue.

Here is my DDC brawler, hard to go wrong with.

360 STD - Yup biggest STD engine
Endo - holy endo batman, on an assault? Bet your blue scuba booties!
ECM
15 DHS
AC20 x 4 tons of ammo
3 SRM6 x3 tons of ammo
2 medium lasers

Excellent heat, and terrifying to mediums and heavies when they realize they can't outrun you.

Not for the meek of C-Bills though, that endo costs straight up a cool mill to put in and 500k to take out.
