Year 3050 clans come to kick ***. right?

Well, they fail their goal..to take Terra, one of the Clans involved gets itself completely annhilated, and the invasion eventuially ends in a, interclannal genocidal bloody war more violent than even the Word of Blake innitiated Jihad that almost wipes out the clans. Many clans were destroyed, others thrown out of the clan structure (abjured).

If you call that kicking ***, then yeah, that's what they CAME to do. They hit a bit of a bump in the road however.

If you look at it as the Golden Horde (Mongols) coming into Euroope during the early middle ages, and while taking many territories, being culturally absorbed by the people they conquered rather than remaining the same (the Clans are vastly outnumbered by the people whose planets they take over, and the most successful clans seem to be the ones willing to change rather than stay "pure clan"

Their coming changed the Inner Sphere also. They indirecly started the Comstar split (into ComStar and the Word of Blake), similiar to the Catholic church splitting into different churches. They Indirectly caused the reformation of the Star League (in order to stop them by IS nations), and they indirectly caused an era of relative peace post Jihad.

They didn't get the glory of directly causing all that however. Their invasion would have to be considered a failure over all. While it took heaps of territory, it didn't take THE territory it wanted the most (old Terran Hegemony worlds, reformation of Teran Hegemony.

The Clans were huns. They didn't get Rome.

Instead it caused massive societal and cultural changes in the inner sphere as everyone adapted. It probably resulted in the breakup of the Fed Com (Holy Roman Empire), and the creation of the Republic of the Sphere (which is hard to compare to as there's not enough action. Perhaps the medieval Italian states, as it's being broken up between the Senate and various factions?)
