Here's another angle for you all. The skills tree for each mech chassis requires a number of variants. It's been strongly hinted that we won't have any advanced tech at the start. There are no canon variants of the dumbed-down Flashman, so you'd have to unlock the high-tech variants before you could become elite with it. Same goes for the Black Knight. That only leaves the Orion, with multiple 3025-era variants and a shed-load more as better gear arrives. And it's widely available to all factions, unlike the other two.

The Marauder has to be in in some recognizable form, so that the Timber Wolf's "Mad Cat" designation makes sense... right?
We've already got artwork for the Catapult (Why hasn't it been in any of the gameplay videos? Were the videos made before the Catapult was available for play-testing?

Maruder would be the best if we are allowed to have one.

Not sure why. It packs good armor, a good weapon package, and looks more like a war machine than the other two highly-stylized mechs.
Plus, you can't beat getting to pilot the mech that kicked down the gates of Amaris's palace.

But I don't think we should choose one, we should have them all.

That said...Clanner though I am...Black Knight > Orion > Flashman.
Kerensky was a hell of a guy, but I respectfully disagree with his choice in mechs; if he thought everyone should pilot Orions, he would have said so, but that was not the case.

Things have moved on since the the time of the Unseen. As you can very clearly see on the Black Knight Sarna page, the 'Mechs where often passed down from person-to-person within a family. That's canonical evidence right there that they where operational outside of Com Guard. Plus the Flashman had a limited production run of the downgraded 7K model that was still in use at the time.
I suggest you get with the times and roll with it, because that's just how it is now. This ain't your daddy's MechWarrior.

Just because things have moved on since the unseen, doesn't mean I have to like it, I look at the Flashman and Black Knight and think they are a poor substitute for a marauder or warhammer.
That's just the way I feel, the thing is even with these mechs battle tech doesn't work without the unseen. The unseen are balanced and interesting designs that fulfil important battlefield functions in game.
You can replace an Archer with a Bombardier, or a Rifleman with a Lancelot. I don't mind these mechs being issue to DC and Comstar as faction perks but I don't want any of the Star league designs in the starting game. If it was in the TRO 2750 then we can do without it.
Which I suppose it my way of saying the only choice here is the Orion, the others can disappear into the obscure annals of history.

Umm, Garth...there is no Black Knight Prime. That's a clan designation. Are you talking about the BL6-KNT Black Knight, which was the original model with the PPC, twin Large Lasers, quad Medium Lasers and BAP?

That happened to me too, the first time I loaded the page Orion wasn't appearing as a choice. But once I refreshed the page it magically appeared. So I voted for it because the Orion is magically delicious
