I remember in MW4 Mercs the Annihilator used to be a Strong assult mech with lots of balistic slots greats for having machineguns in it. I would love to be able to pilot it in MWO.

The Annihilator is canonically exclusive to the Wolf's Dragoons (a mercenary unit originally made up of Clan spies, which eventually betrays the Clans and sides with the Inner Sphere) until the Word of Blake J***d (3067-3081).

MWO starts in 3049, and seems planned to follow a 1:1 time progression (that is, 1 day in-game = 1 day in reality).

As such, it is not likely to be generally available to the Inner Sphere (and, thus, players) for a quite some time...

If the Annihilator used to be with the Inner Sphere wouldn't they have some left over blue prints + there could be an Inner Sphere black market selling them ?

It was designed during the fall of the original Star League, and both the the blueprints and any working material (prototypes, spare parts, etc) were taken with the Star League Defense Force when they left the Inner Sphere.

Even the Clans stopped building them prior to their "Golden Century" (which began in 2834, with the death of Nicholas Kerensky).

As such, the only group that would be building and/or using them until the WoB J***d is the Wolf's Dragoons.

Where did you find all of this? I need to know more about the story.

One good source is Sarna.net. It's similar to Wikipedia, but is specific to BattleTech/MechWarrior and thus has much more depth and detail with regard to BT/MW-related subjects.

Another source is Solaris7.com. it contains links to many BattleMechs' technical specifications (just be sure to enter "MajorTom" in the "Designer" search field).

Battlecorps.com serves as a repository and source for BT/MW fiction, and includes worls and new submissions from long-time BT/MW writers like Blaine Lee Pardoe, Loren L. Coleman, and Herbert A. Beas II (the current Product Line Developer for BT/MW on behalf of the franchise's license holder, Catalyst Game Labs).

[Redacted]
Catalyst also has the BattleTech Universe Guide online, which gives a relatively-quick-but-shallow-on-details explanation of the backstory from the beginning (humanity begins to leave Earth) to the point just before the beginning of the Word of Blake J***d (the same point where the story-mode in MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries ends).

Annihilator! :P
4x LB 10-X AC's in chainfire mode! *nice imagination*

Yeah...it would be a dream to pilot one of these monsters in MWO. Supported with its four Medium Pulse Laser, this machine could shred an Atlas in few seconds. Long time favorite non-omni assaultmech. But it has its weaknesses. Very slowly and poorly amored for a 100 ton mech and it hasn't much ammonition. It is a deathtrap to pilot an ANH-2A on open fields, but at close range, its a ..."Annihilator"! ;)

Let's hope that we see this beast in MWO again.

If MW3 is canonically correct, by the time they implement Annihilator heavy machine gun will be in use and that would mean an Annihilator with 6 HMGs and 2 ER PCCs for good measure.

As it happens, MW3 and all of the other BT/MW video games are considered non-canon.

Quote

Whatever we establish for research material for the authors is canon.
Currently, that list includes:
  • All sourcebooks and novels produced for BattleTech by FASA and Roc in the United States
  • All sourcebooks and novels produced for Classic BattleTech by FanPro and Roc in the United States
  • All sourcebooks and novels (including electronic publications, such as BattleCorps) produced by InMediaRes (and its subsidiaries, BattleCorps and Catalyst Game Labs) in the United States
  • All material produced by WizKids for the MechWarrior: Dark Age/MechWarrior: Age of Destruction game lines
GENERAL INCLUSIVE NOTE: There are a few select instances where a story or article appearing even in these sources may be considered non-canon, but generally this is because the material was in error [...], or it was specifically published as a gag [...].
The list does not include:
  • Magazines, even "official" ones such as BattleTechnology, 'Mech, and others
  • The MechWarrior, MechCommander, and MechAssault video and computer games, as well as the various BattleTech games produced for Nintendo and Sega game systems
  • The BattleTech cartoon series
  • The BattleTech comic book series
GENERAL NON-INCLUSIVE NOTE: Despite their non-canonical status, we have not gone into total denial about these sources either, but have simply opted to pick and choose what elements there are "canon" and what are not.
