At least y'all aren't talking like a clanner saying "quiaff, quineg, aff, neg" When you ask questions and reply to others...

I have a friend who's more or less homebound. Hes a smart guy and his games mean alot to him. Where to a person with a normal social life he could be called pathetically obsessed, he doesnt have those opportunities. Hes well aware of this and still, he loves his games and hobbies. And why not? It brings him happiness, youthful excitement, friendships, and dreams that sustain him. Hes one of my best friends and his needs are few and simple.

So, imo, its ok to devote your life to something like BT or MW. If it brings you happiness and excitement, for some people thats all they can have in life.

Somewhere in classic japanese philosophy, it espouses the beauty of devoting your life to mastering and perfecting one interest, trade, or field of study. If you are the master of it, no matter what it is, people will come to you to learn. Even a game.

@ Josh Davion. As for speaking like a clanner.. thats just roleplay and taking MW maybe a little further that what you are comfortable with. If you dont like that, what are you doing here?

Today, i realised that my very strong desire..my overwhelming urge...my NEED for information about this game..NAY..my imperative to PLAY this game NOOOWWWWWW..has gently and quietly slid into my everyday normal "real life" the way a Death Commando might sneak into your bedroom at night to give you a nasty surprise from Theodore Kurita.

you ah, slipped up here. Death Commandos are actually a Capellan unit.......now that i've got that out of the way I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I've responded to customers at work with "aff", "neg" and once with a "quineg".

Is Mechwarrior/Battletech seeping into my real life?

Yep. And I wouldn't have it any other way. I have grown up on Mechwarrior and it's only getting more intense as I age. Sometimes I call people online "clan filth" as a derogatory. Do they know what I'm saying? Probably not, but that doesn't stop me.

I do use "Aff" and "Neg" occasionally, and people generally understand what I'm saying. They probably think it's military talk or something.

I imagine when driving out in the country side doing 100kph that a 20 ton locus could be passing me. ;)

Does that count?

Does buying a Hula Girl for my desktop

Spending hours trying to get my favorite Xbox controller to work on the PC

and

Logging at least an hour a day on the forums for any news and maybe a private message inviting me to a Beta (Not counting Wed as that day I can spend all day hitting the f5 button.. )

Count as seeping into my real life? ;)

Well, I have a easy solution for fixes, besides just playing the older games. Going back and re-reading ALL THE BOOKS! My plan is to start a hunt, online, anywhere I can, to fine one copy of every book. I've read most of them, and when I go on a Battletech reading/playing spree I do start to use "aff" and "neg". Sometimes, if I have to walk up my lane(1KM long) I pretend I'm piloting a Bushwacker, or Cauldron Born.

I can... more aff and neg than quiaff or quianeg... My wife looks at me really funny and rolls her eyes if I say quiaff and quineg.

My two toddlers however are my Screaming Bear Sibko.

When I finish with the current arcade machine I am building and complete a mock up of the rotating monitor showcase cab as my next project, I'll be building a Battletech VR 3.0 pod for Mechwarrior Online play. So yes, it has been seeping into my life for a long time.

This song haunts my dreams... so close to music I listened to when playing battletech, and soooo close to the MWO theme

Excellent choice. As for Battletech infiltrating my life, I have been known to insult some of my less brilliant coworkers with the terms Freebirth, stravag, surat, etc. I can't help it. I am passionate about the Battletech universe. My wife proclaims me a nerd. I believe, on the contrary,, I am simply a dispossessed mechwarrior.

Here's an interesting hypothetical for you all: If you were given a chance to plug into a virtual Battletech world (Matrix style vat etc), but you would not be able to leave, would you do it?

Depends if I can have the pilot skills uploaded to my brain, then yes, I would love to go be a Clan Trueborn in a VR
