GG is basic sportsmanship, whether you win/lose a close game, get annihilated or completely stomp the other team.

Good Luck and Have Fun are positive sentiments. I would say that "Don't Suck" is actually a negative sentiment. If you want to keep it fun and sportsmanlike I would avoid the DS.

It may sound petty, but I HATE when people type "GL HF" in chat before a game. Why? Because it's extremely lazy. It's the equivalent of sending someone a txt to wish them a happy birthday. "Happy bday!" ---Really? Thanks, I guess?

Take 5 seconds, if that, to type out "Good luck and have fun!" I mean you have a full 10 second countdown at least, that you can type something.

Or maybe even think up something using your own brain, like "Hey everyone, I hope this match goes well!" or some other sentence that takes some actual thought to type.

No offence, but whether you agree with the statement or not is irrelivant. That's what GG means in competitive play. Watch any Starcraft, DOTA tournament and that is how it is used. And that is how it should be used.

So you do you say "terrific" as a positive or negative adjective? Words can change meaning over time and that case is no different, Back to the topic of the post, I will now be using EB religiously (especially to vegetarians).

i just say "HF all"... MWO doesn´t depend on luck anyway (well at least not entirely^^ ...one could say "good luck being in the right team" ;))

I always preferred the ~S~ salute. and gf. But we cant say gf because theres no post game chat<silly>
MY preferred opening to my team is HHSS> Happy hunting, shoot straight.
Ive become a bit of a chat box starting last night to my team as I feel it lightens the mood and it will only be helpful to create the appearance of a good community once OB drops.

Plus , if the team gets used to chat, its more likely they will see the tactical call outs<especially the calls for defend when necessary.

Two minor things: first, the First Rule of Dad: "Its not whether you win or loose, its how you play the game." I think this often gets forgotten in compter games, and GLHF is a nice reminder that this is, after all, a game, and we really arent enemies.

Second, the shorthand that I saw in WoT o7 which was their shorthand for a salute. Hopefully, one that follows the gigline, instead of swinging your arm all alround and whacking the sailor next to you, like the squids do it. Cause some serious harm saluting like that in a mech.

If anything I usually go with GH (good hunting). It's more in the feel of the game.

Except given the way the radar/sensors work in this game, you don't actually need to hunt for anything ;)

I try to work with the GL HF part, but the DS is beyond me. I just S. So the D is wasted. Maybe you could try GL HF SM where M=More, because that I can do.

GL - good luck, you'll need it.
HF - Have fun, 'cos yer too stupid to figure out what games are for.

Spare me the meaningless nonsense.

DIE.

GL is pointless to say, Luck is not needed for this game.

GDIAFUF is what I would like to say, cause I find it annoying when the screen is flooded by every consonant in the alphabet by half the people present. But I don't cause I don't respect or disrespect many people for just being themselves, no matter how much I want to smash your face into the pavement as I crush you beneath my feet :P

I don't know if GL HF was started here in the MWO beta, but it's the first place I've seen it.

Good Luck Have Fun (GLHF) originated from long ago in the MW3 days when that would be the traditional salutation before started a league game. The idea was to remind everyone that this is a GAME and that you should HAVE FUN and not take it too seriously. Simpler happier times or just a closer knit community?

The DS is new.
