I kind of wanted not to continue with creating more Battletech animation to face other projects. However, I learned so much during the process and just couldn't help but wonder what a current project would like. Well, maybe something like this.
Left: The old Timber Wolf. Right: The new Timber Wolf (very much inspired by HanaYuriko's redesign btw).
I will probably do at least one other film or short animation at some point. Kinda depends on my mood and interest in Battletech, as well as on how much interest the first film continues to attract (not that I'm unhappy with the response so far!).

but i can´t spare you some critics, i hope you don´t mind
the sound editing could use some finetuning... if all dialogues would have the same quality as this jaguar guy, it would be great^^
i know how hard dialogues are for non-actors (me and some roleplayer friends tried making a warhammer 40k audio drama...and failed hard^^)
board computer voice could use a little more volume as well...
but no matter, all in all a cool movie, maybe we´ll see more episodes soon?

The lighting and atmosphere in the exterior shots were all excellent, as were the visual effects during the 'Mech fight, although personally I would have had the weapon hits produce more than just sparks even in such a stylized piece. The 'Mech animations were fluid. All that was missing, I think would have been some more close-ups of the Timberwolf to properly establish its menace before the challenge is issued.
As for audio... Well I understand that it's a fan project and your voice talent almost certainly aren't trained actors. Unfortunately, it was also painfully obvious that it's a fan project and you're using untrained, unpaid voice talent. Except for the Clanner, who was appropriately cold, calculating and devoid of empathy, none of the characters managed to be convincing, particularly the Bushwacker pilot, who seemed more like he was reading from a sales invoice than speaking naturally. I think more effort could have been placed on getting the voice talent to enunciate their lines, and to say them with a bit more conviction. Certainly the Bushwacker pilot shouldn't have sounded so bored as he was getting slaughtered by the Clanner!
On the other hand, the sound effects were convincing, appropriate and well used. The musical score was actually very impressive, and it underscored the action perfectly. The audio quality was clean and even the voice recordings were very clear and much better quality than I'm used to in a fan project, acting problems aside. My one complaint about the technical aspects of the sound is that the audio environment seemed too austere. I could barely hear the computer voice, and the 'Mech cockpits seemed eerily quiet. There should be all kinds of mechanical noise going on in a moving BattleMech, and its absence was jarring.
The plot was a little thin, and the opening sequence just kind of took up space that could have been better used on exposition of why two random 'Mechs and a convoy were on some periphery dirtball waiting to be ambushed by a renegade Clanner. That said, once the action started the story pacing was excellent and the ending had just the right level of tension.
Overall I'd give it 3.5 stars out of 5. There are several highlights where the work is of very good quality, and the amount of effort that went into it is readily apparent. On the other hand there are also a number of areas that I feel like need a fair bit of work. It's still a solid effort and it's evident that there's talent behind it. Best of luck on your future projects.

Do like the cell-shading effect, the MechWarriors could use some work but your already way better than the Summerset Strikers. Thought the ending was a little lacking with no real conclusion, is this to be continued or what? That aside, this had some great visuals and decent sound, cant wait for the next one.

The guys recording the audio only had whatever audio equipment they had lying around (gaming headsets I presume) and I only had their audio to work with. If I had had the possibility I would have liked the sound to be much better. I made the computer voice very quiet on purpose, because I thought it added to the atmosphere, but seemed distracting with the sound turned up.
Viele Grüße aus dem Ruhrpott nach Berlin übrigens.

Since I do not know all that much about the lore I had the story written by a popular fan fic writer and fact checked by the Sea Wolves. As I understand it, the Clanner in the film is "one of the left-over" Smoke Jaguars after they were all but eradicated. He is hiding out on that rock to take as many freebirths with him as he can (as he points out at the end of the film).

Wow. Lots of very valid points, I think I can only get to a few of them, I have also answered some in previous posts. First, I am not a very good 2D artist, if I had known the project would take this long I would have had the characters drawn by someone else I think.
The music was done by a friend of mine. He did the whole score on one weekend. He is seriously talented and I'm so glad he could get it done this fast while getting it to a decent level of quality. If I had given him more time (which for future projects I definetely will), he can do much much better, I am sure. He might also do the sound effects in future projects, which should take care of all the quibbles you had with that.
Thank you for the 3.5 stars.

I don't know if and when there will be a next movie, although since I already went to the trouble of redesigning the Timber Wolf, chances are I will create SOMETHING. If not an actual short film, at least some decent looking animation tests. I have been doing CGI for more than 10 years, although by the "quality" of Red Bone Run you would never guess that. That is because after I stopped using pirated software in my youth, I didn't have any decent software for years until I finally got around to learning Blender. My improvements from here on will be increasingly fast, because I'm really just re-learning, not so much learning. My current renders already look a LOT better than anything I did in this short film.
Again, thank you all! I really love getting all your feedback and it definitely makes me wanna create more things that you might like.

I thought I give a few more people the chance to see the movie. Not everyone looks at this forum regularly, so maybe someone who enjoyed the trailer missed out on the movie so far.

You should do a post on the trailer thread. I regularly checked that thread for news about the release.
Now that I have seen it: Nice work!
