Not true, it is there right between the Windows 3,1 and the Eye-phone version.

Sure, get Windows running either through a shell or bootcamp, then while using Windows log into the MWOmercs forum. The beta you download should then work on your mac as long as you're looking at it through Windows.

I feel your pain fellow mac user.

I'm honestly really close to buying an all-in-one or small footprint gaming PC (I've been looking at maingear.com) just to play this game.
Seems kind of weird or a waste to buy a PC purely for playing a game ... just this game. But I've been using Apples since Apple IIc in the 80s and Macs since a Color Classic and OS 7 in early 90s!

Or maybe getting a new MacBook, depending on if the specs are good enough to run this game.

An iMac can run this game if you buy Windows and install that with bootcamp. Hardly any reason to buy a PC if you have a resonably spec'd Mac.

There is no Mac client, and no current plans to make a Mac client. You'll notice LoL was out for years before they finally released a Mac client, and it's initial release was relatively buggy.

Mac gamer will always be a minority, and right now making a mac client for MWO isn't profitable. Run under Windows or Windows emulation, and wait patiently for native mac support.

heres a quote from a different forum

- The current generation of consoles are 5+ years behind, and CryEngine 3 runs on them. Are they somehow better suited to gaming than a brand new Mac with today's CPUs and GPUs?

person 2 said:

Yes, actually. In terms of being worth someone's time and effort on a business model they are. Despite being five years old, they are specifically designed to run in a manner that is conductive to game engines ranging from their hardware architecture to their low-footprint OS.

The current macs:
Macbook Air: Something that people think are great for college. Low screen resolution, but integrated graphics. Also, the thing has no dedicated heat dissipation for its CPU. Apple hopes you just dont run the cpu that hard.

Macbook Pro: There's three real versions. The integrated graphics version is not much different than the Macbook Air in regards to Gaming. The second most expensive version will get you a 650m as a GPU, but it only has 512MB of memory. The most expensive version will get you a 1GB 650m, but it also runs into heat dissipation issues. The retina scaling issues have done nothing but draw rage from the veins of Mac users who think it is supposed to make everything look better even when it doesn't.

iMacs: They're Macbook Pros without the ability to close the screen and with half the memory.

MacPro: They're Apple's excuse to sell hardware at a 250-800% markup. On top of that, their video cards are a generation behind the rest of Apple's lineup (Two generations of actual hardware). However, they pass minimum SDK requirements and roughly give the best specs for the line.

Heat and 512MB GPU memory on the majority of the line slaughter any thought that it could be a serious market. Yeah, they will theoretically run the SDK based on minimum hardware specs but that's only if Crytek hires someone to spend the time writing the libraries and then making an OpenGL deferred renderer. Lets put this in perspective; we're on the doorstep of a new console generation that will put the hardware of the entire Mac line to shame. Developers are going to be pushed for years to make full use out of the new console in comparison to today's high-end workstations (which on their own are vastly superior to Macs in hardware).

It's been about 8 years since Apple decided to drop IBM and start using Intel for their CPUs. There's a reason why despite that they still aren't up to date with game development. Valve is about the only developer that supports them, but that's only because they never went past DirectX 9 in their engine.

i think that sums it up nicely. there isnt even osx support from Crytek for PGI to work with...

The game works great for me using Bootcamp on MBP Retina. I tried running it on a virtualized copy of Win7 in Parallels, but unsurprisingly it crashed every time. So if your Mac supports Bootcamp, give it a shot.

Greetings, fellow mac user! I did drop $400 on a new PC just for this game though. There's no way my MBP from 2009 will actually play it. XD

Try Crossover games. You can try it for free. It says it can handle Diablo III so MWO SHOULD run, but try before you buy.

Either buy software allowing you to run Windows XP/7/8 inside your Mac and then run MWOMercs or use the free BootCamp on Mac and dual boot. The second is the best option. Heck SSD drives onsale/specials are $60 bucks and just Boot to Windows on an SSD drive. The game runs fine dual-booted on a Mac.

I've got the game running great on my iMac. I used bootcamp to install the windows component, and now I just switch back and forth. If I want to game, I switch to Windows. I use Mac for business.

Here's a tip: generally if you're a college student with an ID, you can get a copy of windows for free from the CIS department. That's how I got my copy of windows. Good luck on getting your hands on a copy, and I'll see you in game soon!

For those who have run this game on a Mac...

Can I ask a favor that you post some information (machine specs, game experience, etc) in the following thread:
http://mwomercs.com/...r-mac-hardware/

Much appreciated!

This game will probably never run on OSX, but it can run on a Mac. So I say lets try to figure out which Macs are good to run it and which are not.
As well as provide any other helpful hints (win7 speedups/streamlining, game setting speedups/configs, etc).

Before there's a Mac client, there shall be a Ubuntu client. :P
