What is the clans general attitude towards a Merc Corps?

or is it something that is dependent from clan to clan?

They very much dislike MERC Corps.

Clan warriors find them a mockery of their ideals. Clan Warriors, Trueborn or Freeborn alike fight to prove their skill and for the honor of themselves, their Cluster and their Clan. Mercenaries fight for profit and there is little honor view upon Mercs.

Mercenaries very quickly became treated like bandits, pirates and dark caste to the Clan forces, which means they did not even bother with Zellbrigen, they just wanted to purge the dezgra filth. :D

No problem. I always enjoy questions about the Clans.

There sure is a lot of lore with BattleTech, spanning centuries. A good place to start for Inner Sphere is.. http://www.sarna.net...ts/house_books/

Sadly there is nothing 'free' for the Clans. Maybe sometime soon they will release the Warriors of Kerensky sourcebook in PDF for free. But yeah, any time you have a question, i know there are at least a dozen Clan players, myself included who LOVE to talk about the Clans... my wife would probably appreciate the break too :D

I can say for certain that sarna has been a HUGE help though. Cleared up a lot (Like Tukkayid, I remember reading that as a kid, remembering it was cool and not understanding a single word...ahh the MW2 days...)

Sorry for the derailment, but I've caught this a few times now. What's up with the anti- sarna.net sentiment?

Did you check the link? It is for the free house books. I would have linked BG.Battletech but I do not think they have re-uploaded the free 80s house books lol. Otherwise I would not have bothered with Sarna.

I'm not sure about others, but personally I'm not a fan of the massive level of information available on sarna.

I'd rather folks take a shot at supporting Catalyst Game Labs (http://bg.battletech.com/?page_id=3498) and helping grow the BattleTech/MechWarrior brand.

The numerous errors I run into on sarna irk me a bit too, but that's the nature of wikis ...

Sarna is a fan based movement to educate people about the BattleTech universe fiction, and I wholly support it. Some people do not care for it because of errors that can be found on some pages, though on the whole it is quite accurate. I think other have a train of mind that the only correct way to research and learn about the fiction is to buy the sourcebooks and to do the research yourself. Frankly, I have most of the sourcebooks, and every one that concerns the Clans, and I still read and contribute to Sarna quite often. Basically, Sarna is a great place for the uninitiated to get a good snap shot of any given subject. But to get all the nitty-gritty details, you still need to read up on the sourcebooks, which are quite convientently listed at the bottom of any particular topic's page.

To anyone who suggests that getting the information for free discourages people from buying the sourcebooks, I disagree. If it had not been for earlier resource sites like Solaris7, dropshipcommand, or Patrick's BattleTech Archive, my interest would have never been piqued enough to want to buy the books and novels to learn more.

Although I understand Seth's viewpoint Derack, I would prefer something that is error free. Which is why I link people to either:

http://ppc.warhawkenterprises.com/

http://web.archive.o...ultraforce.org/

OR

http://bg.battletech.com/

Also if you need any reading material, you can either PM or e-mail me.

I very much doubt anything is 'error free' when it comes to BattleTech, given the volume of information. Even official publications sometimes get things wrong, despite the writers' best efforts. Case in point, after two minutes of searching through your second link one can already find such errors as:

Quote

The Word of Blake and 21st Centauri Lancer forces attacked and destroyed Hilton Head and the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, inflicting considerable losses on the ComGuard 201st Division. As the attack continued, Precentor Koenigs-Cober destroyed everything of value which could not be taken and retreated offworld with Primus Mori, the First Circuit, and remaining ComGuard forces

The 21st Centauri Lancers never participated in the attack, they were blackmailed by Word of Blake forces (who kidnapped their dependents) to allow them to place an imposter unit on Terra.

Sarna is a pretty good resource. It's not error free by a long shot, but I don't think it's that much more filled with errors than most other sites...

The DC actually employs mercs, Clans tend to shoot them unless they are the Kell Hounds or Wolf's Dragoons.

I think he is referring to the "Death to Mercenaries" edict issued by Takashi Kurita.
