The SLDF staying in the Inner Sphere... Please, someone tell me how this would have worked? Terran Hegemony gone... WHERE would the money for the SLDF units come from, the equipment to repair the machines of war, the food, etc? The Terran Hegemony was blasted and ruined thanks to Amaris. They would have managed for a decade maybe two. But eventually each house lord would have bought off troops, units and battalions. Loyalty to Kerensky is not going to put food on tables.

Kerensky left with the remains of the Terran Hegemony and the SLDF to make sure that one of the power hungry Lords did not start up a corrupt Star League, through means of force... which is what the Succession Wars were all about. The few units of the SLDF that did remain in the Inner Sphere were bought by Houses and made in to House Armies or went and became Merc units, like the Light Horses did.

One house could not regain the Star League and become first lord out of power, Micheal Cameron never established the Star League with force, it was done through diplomacy, for the most. No House Lord wanted to be First Lord, they just wanted the dominance over the rest of the Inner Sphere.

If Kerensky had stayed in the Inner Sphere, the Succession Wars would have been WAY more bloodier. Kerensky knew what was coming and he wanted to try and save what was left of the Star League. The House Lords could have cared less about the Star League.

I suppose another thing can be considered. Say for sake of argument that Kerensky did stay and try to hold the Star League together. I believe it is safe to assume the SLDF was the strongest military in the Inner Sphere. Consider the amount of effort that was required to pacify the periphery just before the Amaris Coup. If we can assume that the SLDF could pacify any one House at a time, and quite possibly multiple Houses at a time, or perhaps even all of them at one time, how long do you think the SLDF could keep that up? Considering what appears of the greed and the ambitions of the House Lords to succeed as 1st Lord, what may be initially isolated rebellions could eventually become burgeoning, concerted rebellions and would begin a war of attrition against Kerensky and the SLDF.

Not only did leaving the Inner Sphere prevent the possible misuse of the SLDF, but it possibly protected the personnel of the SLDF from a slow "bleed-off".

The Terran Hegemony didn't go any where UNTIL the SLDF left. It was a bit beat up, but still functional, the House leaders were all arguing that they should be the next Lord of the Star League, but if Kerensky had said "No, I'm going to forma a military government until we can get this back on track, and if any of you want to argue with me, I've still got a better, bigger, higher tech army than any of you.

The Succession wars were what destroyed the Terran Hegemony as the twin pillars of it's power were gone, the Camerons, and now the SLDF.

Kerensky simply didn't have the balls to tell the House Lords what to do. He had an aversion to politics (understandable) but he also had a respnsibility as the most powerful man in the Inner Sphere at that time to protect the lives of the citizens of the Hegemony, he ran away.

Also, The Camerons didn't establish the Terran Hegemony, it was established by Admiral James McKenna, and he used lots of force. The Camerons took over after he died because he had no kids. The Star League used the Reunification war as it's intial action, conquering the Periphery states and forcing them to join the Star League. It was an extremely bloody action. While the 5 great houses joined peacefully, they did also because of the promise of expanded borders and greater wealth (they annexed many periphery worlds), destroyed periphery manufacturing, and forced periphery states to buiy their products as well as pay taxes to pay for the Reunification war (very British of them, which suits the Camerons to a T).

Kerensky had the strength left to maintain the Hegemony.

Can you really just put all the blame on Kerensky? That is a bit ridiculous, people have to be responsible for their individual actions: therefore the houses are no less to blame for the calamities that would come. Do not place blame on someone simply because of their position of assumed power; perhaps he could have resolved the inner sphere's problems but it was his choice to make- just like the choices the houses made to continue the fighting amongst themselves. (Not that the Clans to come would be any more reasonable in this respect.)

Kerensky saved the lives of countless men and wemon, from corrupted bureaucrats that just as soon destroy each other and everything in between. If the Inner Sphere wanted to save lives and reformed the SLDF, they should have welcomed the clans with open arms.

Slight fix but otherwise in full agreement.

Comstar atleast owns Earth, any decent human Empire has to be ruled from Earth. If anyone who owns Earth starts a galactic conquest and needs mercs, sign me up.
