Gameplay video of an upcoming mech game made by a handful of people. Thought it might spark some discussion.

I personally love the atmosphere and visceral feel of the mechs. Something I feel is lacking in what we've seen from MWO so far. I also like the perceived scale more, although I'm sure MWO will have much more detailed in-game assets.

Sounds like a good topic for the Off Topic Forum

I don't know if you noticed but the forum name is Mechwarrior Online, not Hawken.

But i do agree the unreal engine 3 gives off good atmosphere. Although I suspect MWO team will fine tune the graphics closer to open beta.

This belongs in off topic, it has nothing to do with MWO.

to me just looked like a fast paced shooter very little piloting involved.

It is just different. I love the visuals style, and the incockpit view. Sorta Steampunk maybe. The atmospheric sounds seem Epic feelwise. It seems as well to have that sorta twitchy HG 2 feel. It certainly is no Mechwarrior. I might give the Beta a go tho.

Reminds me of Armored Core. Maybe with a lil' more dirt rubbed in it's face. Done the third-person, robot action, blast everything in sight kind of game too many times. Hasn't excited me in a long time.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

And yeah, plug another game in the Off topic section.

What is mechwarrior? It's not like MWO is a mech simulator, no Steel Battalion was a mech simulator in the same exact way that Flight simulator X is a flight sim. Startup procedures, various complex things to keep in mind as well as a full on "dead is dead" campaign mode.

Hawken is clearly a shooter yes, but it appeals to the masses infinitely more than MWO does specifically because it's defined exactly what it is, a crazy pretty, fast paced, flashy, action shooter with mechs. So what is MWO cashing in on? Fan service? How many people really want another mechwarrior game? Judging by how many people have signed up on this forum my guess is not a lot. MWO isn't a mech simulator, the only thing simulator-ish is the fact that you have to manage heat, it's just a slow paced, boring to most I imagine, tactical mech shooter.

I think Hawken is going to be the victor at the end of the day because I really don't think MWO will have enough fans to sustain itself.

EDIT Let me just say, I am looking forward to MWO, I am a mechwarrior fan and I have the utmost respect for Piranha games for bringing back Mechwarrior. I'm just concerned with how well this game can do.

hawken will have the upper hand till Black Ops 2 comes out this year and then, it will get forgotten faster than some very important thing in a rush. :)

Oh, and it's not indie. It's got a publisher which donated 1 000 000 $. That's a simple AA F2P game.

Defiantly belongs in Off Topic, but I think I'll give it a shot. Sometimes, FPS style mechs are okay, at least to tide me over.

Um.... You'd be surprised how a small-ish fan base can keep something going. Sure, 76 thousand have signed up for now. But the game hasn't even release yet. Also, look at something like Firefly, it's fan base isn't that large either, yet? Demand for more is very high.

From what I've seen, it's just another FPS. Kind of burned out on them, looking for more tactics with my 70 ton engine of death Mech games. MWO looks like it's going to deliver that.

I've liked the trailer I'm definately going to give this some love. Only it comes out AFTER MWO... so maybe not.

This is not a MW replacement, and doesn't pretend to be, which means they are free to make something cool.

Mechwarrior it isn't, but there's no harm in trying it out. I might even like it as a different kind of "Mech" game, when I'm in the mood. I agree with Technoviking.

And also, there's no need to get crappy with Pew Pew. He didn't say it was better than Mechwarrior, just that some of us might be interested in another "Mech" style game. He's simply informing us that there's another game that we might like to check out. He isn't endorsing it, just telling those who might not know.

Doesn't look to bad. I might check it out when it releases. The gameplay looks a little clunky and awkward, though.

I agree it looks more shooter than mech game.
