well a mad cat only does 4.25 times the damage for slightly more than twice the tonnage. but it also costs over ten times as much to produce. most people never deal with cost unless they are in a full length campaign. i usually attempt to cost efficient my designs out of general principle however.

it can do 85 damage. tech one atlas does 72. it does 13 more damage at tech 2.5 than an atlas does at tech one. depending on the campaign it is also going to be a massive target. cause seriously, you see a company coming at you that has both a firefly and a mad cat in it, who are you going to shoot at?

depending on how damaged your mech is, for example replacing the engine alone would by like 8-9 fireflies. it could be entirely cheaper to buy four more of the base tech one fireflys.

but then again, the firefly was designed as a skirmisher and a raider, at tech one it can outrun most things it can't kill, with the notable exception of the phoenix hawk., and it can kill most things it can't outrun, same exception.

also, my tech two firefly update.

Heh. Now THIS is an ancient bit of threadwork. That being said, it's certainly not an impossible design to add to MWO, as there's nothing much stopping things. It'd be engine capped about midway between the slowpoke Urbie and the speedster Spider.

The "base" version, the -4B is notable in MWO terms for it's intergrated antimissile system, making it one of the starts-with-two AMS slots. Energy hardpoints are in each torso, meaning the arms can be safely stripped down if need be, as is the missile hardpoint in the right torso. On the other hand, those hardpoints will likely be below the cockpit. Jump capacity is modest- this won't fly like the Spider, but a few jets will keep it mobile if desired, with a chicken-walker style chassis. A lack of arm actuators maxes available critical space but limits arm-mounted hardpoints somewhat.

The older version is actually more appealing to many. The -4A has no base AMS, but instead carries a solid seven energy + 1 missile hardpoints, 1E in each arm, 2E in the left torso, 2E center torso, and 1M/1E in the right torso. Even the torso hardpoints are enough for a solid 5 medium laser build here, or if you really feel like missiles, the torso will cheerfully take a single SRM or MRM mount to back them up. The -4DA also gives the line an ECM variant, but knowing PGI will pay for it with limited (possible as little as 3E+M) hardpoints and require some juggling to get space for everything into the LFE build (probably going XL instead and switching out of ferrofibrous armor).

It'd probably end up in the middile in a lot of ways, resembling it's bigger bro the Cicada.

Also, bear in mind that the Firefly's LRM 5 can be used with FASCAM rounds. It's no Sling on that front, but it can be used for that role. Also, according to TRO 3050U the Firefly was meant as a light anvil unit.
