convergence for laser weapons is straight-forward enough, but what about ballistics. If you have an enemy in your crosshairs will your mech compensate for lead time and bullet drop? If it doesn't then you would have to take your crosshairs off your target and therefore screw-up your weapon convergence.
Obviously the aim-assist would only work inside the effective range of whatever weapon you're using.

with ballistics/PPCs if like MW4 I think coveragence should happen within 250 meters if at all.
with ballistics you could generally keep them all on one side or even arm of the mech to avoid this issue and with PPCs and Gauss rifles which you generally have one of them on each arm you could assign them to separate fire groups.

for simplicity sake i think they should work like the lasers for convergence.

They can't just work for lasers as the OP suggested (the mech compensating for lead time and drop) since then effectively the ballistic weapons would become instant hit just like lasers.
I think the OP raises a good point although to be honest this exact issue was there in MW4, and makes sense. The weapons converge on the aim point, and if you're leading a mech far enough, that aim point isn't even on the mech but on the ground some way in front of the mech. As a result it's possible that some of your shots hit, and some don't. So I don't think the "laggy" weapon convergence suggested for MWO, where it takes some time for your weapons to converge onto the aim point (unlike MW4 which was instant) is directly relevant here. It's simply the concept of convergence, and convergence comes from the fact that you are firing several weapons from different locations on your mech together. So it seems unavoidable.

I would like convergence to be decent but not to accurate. With the weapons systems being spread out over the mech, and the fact that no 2 guns are ever truly the same. I really hope we do have to lead moving targets. Also your lead should vary according to speed and range. I have played some games were if you lead the same at different ranges you still hit the target. That was dumb and to easy. Your cross-hairs should be further away from further targets, or faster targets.

As was discussed in a different thread, we are not sure if a ballistics profile (arc trajectory) will be implemented for all weapons. If that is the case, the projectiles might just be straight line, so all you have to do is lead. As for the convergence issue, it will make it more difficult, but once you try it a few times you'll lead how to lead a target with different background target distances. Also, since we know there will be 2 cosshairs (one for arm weapons the other for torso weapons) it will be possible to form a bracket around your target to help with leading shots, and for any sudden changes in the enemies spoeed/direction.
