I know I know the Crysis engine so far has no native support, but have you guys thought about it?
Personally in the current state it would suck even to try it over wine.

Update: Well it seems I am wrong but found that Phoronix states there is a Linux port.

Even if it is possible, one must still consider risk vs reward.

Would a Linux port earn then enough revenue to go through the trouble? That's a tough question, and will always be inherently risky.

MWO's current business venture is risky enough as it is, and the game hasn't even reached open beta yet. I wouldn't hold my breath for cross platform native support for a long time.

League of Legends has been operating for a long time now, raking in piles of revenue, but still does not have native linux support.

I'm not even sure how well this game would run on the Windows 8 release version when that drops, nevermind Linux.

Hmm. Too bad you aren't planning it. I really would have appreciated it.

Would love to see Linux support of some kind. I am working my way away from windows. This might mean i have to duel boot but i would love and i know a few others would also love linuxs support too.

I highly doubt we'll see a Linux or Mac client in the forseeable future. Having worked on multi-platform development projects before, I can tell you the cost of supporting multiple platforms is substantial. Just finding qualified people to develop, test and support high performance 3D applications for Linux is not easy. The whole X windows environment has improved significantly over the past decade, but its still a completely different animal than Windows.

Problem 2 is the market share issue and risk -v- reward that has already been mentioned. Suppose PGI could spend $100K on making the Windows client perfect. Such an investment could attract & hook millions of gamers. If they were to spend that same amount of money on a "perfect" linux client they'd be lucky to attract & hook a thousand gamers. "If you build it, they will come" isn't going to work here.

Got both systems running on my PC.
Linux for work and safety, and Windows 7 for gaming, browsing and everydays stuff.
Linux isn't a gaming friendly environment. Never was, never intended to be.
Have to say there is no drawback in having two operating systems running.
First problem is with graphics drivers and linux. Sure you get nearly every IBM compatible PC to run linux but gaming and 3D graphics is a diffrent piece of cake. Standart drivers don't work in far to many cases.
How many users do you think would take the efford on them to get some drivers correctly installed and running on linux when they could simply install the game under windows and beeing done with it since Win 7 fetches next to any driver automaticaly ? Its just an pointless efford without proper reward to get this game running under linux.

4GB DDR3
pos HD 4200 ATI ( not compatible but i'm still playing, so far no hardware glitches at all, just choppy play )

Try Crossover games. They claim their port of WINE is geared towards games. You can try the product before you buy it. It says it will run Diablo III so MWO might work as well.

Google crossover games.

This game uses directx, and is having enough problems as is, they're not going to port it to linux / opengl.

X-over has been irrelevant for years. Stock WINE will run everything X-over will. It's likely that we won't see a port of MWO to linux until Cryengine is ported to linux. Porting the engine to another platform wouldn't be PGI's domain. That'd be Crytek. That being said, I wouldn't put that out of the realm of possibility. Valve is already porting the Source engine to Linux in anticipation of Win8's failure.

You know this isn't 1998 right? (Regarding graphics driver installations)
Not all but many games do run pretty well on Wine, and they are nowadays all Directx.
If the news about the Cryengine being ported to Linux is true, then all PGI has to do, as far as I understand is release Linux binaries for the game.
I guess whatever anticheat system they are using should be ported too.

Steam is porting many of their games to Linux. The porting process even found numerous issues with CS:S, CS:GO, and TF2. The fixes in the Linux version where able to be back ported to the Windows versions of the games. Also in case you didn't know this, Steam and more games are actually being build with OpenGL. OpenGL does not hit your system as hard and offers better and cross platform performance over DX10 and DX11. I think it would be a good way to go.

I'm not an OpenGL coder, there are other at work that do that. They tell me with SLI and Crossfire you get a greater performance boost then you get with DX10 SLI.

Tell that to the folks over at Steam....

Open Computing runs the internet, the servers, the phone in your pocket and most tablets. I would say it's more alive than you think.
