If the ppc's build up the enormous amount of heat they're supposed to, there'll be no problem.

Listen I absolutely love PPCs (mostly generated by my strange and unfathomable affection for the Uziel 2-s), but if every player has a PPC then it essentially becomes like the Assault Rifle in Halo, useless. A solution to this would be if the MWO team actually placed in great autocannons such as LBX and Rotary, people have fallen out of touch with ballistic weapons ( except for the god-mongering gauss) and pulse lasers actually need to have an effect (especially when used in concentration).

RAC/2 and RAC/5 don't become available 'til 3062; that's13 years. =(
LB-10X and Artemis IV FCS were 'rediscovered' in 3035; I.E. 14 years ago. Those should be around.
Arrow IV was 'rediscovered' in 3044; 5 years ago. Those should also be around.
AC/5 was never lost. If you mean LB-5X, then those won't be around 'til 3058. If you mean UAC/5, then that, too, was rediscovered in 3035.

I can make a suggestion.
There will be a lot of "nerf PPCs" cries.

PPCs will simply have a disadvantage. Every weapons has its advantages as well as disadvantages.

PPCs build enormous heat, have slow travelling projectiles (so no hitting of lights) and the most you can have at once are three now.

Hopfully the Devs. will see we need a good balance so people will use a wide choice of weapons, which ever they feel better at....

i would actually be more ready to pull the ppc and replace with some gauss rifles or even heavy gauss ... they eat ammo a bit but they are low heat and ok range ....

mmm give me a blood kite with the arm mounted lrm15 replaced with a gauss rifle and ill be happy

I should be interesting to try a fire support missile boat mind, I'm thinking Dervish. But it might go the way alot of mmo's are going ppc totin tanks up front, lights for scout and harrasment and support at the back lobbin lrms over the top! I think i like that.

PPCs are not everything. I'm more fond of Flamers, personally: rush up to a medium or heavy 'mech and start flaming like mad. The true comedy is when you realize that they're so cheap to mount, weigh next to nothing, and put a lot of heat on a target. Cramming a 'mech full of those could actually be a valid tactic for scouts. There's just one problem, and that's what happens when it fails.

Weapon destroyed.
Weapon destroyed.
Weapon destroyed.
"Really?"
Weapon destroyed.
Weapon destroyed.
Weapon destroyed.
Weapon destroyed.
"SHUT UUUUP! I know I'm done!"
Weapon destroyed.
Weapon destroyed.

Ah, fond memories of Mechwarrior III... Fun stuff. Running up to an AC20-loaded Annihilator with an unarmored Puma and flaming it into a nuclear-powered mushroom cloud of death was true comedy. People raged at me for that.

Haha this tactic with a Nova Cat and add in 2 Arty strikes it was beatiful thing. Your right though once the flamers got destroyed your chances of keeping a mech locked down due to heat are next to none. MW4 we would run 3 or 4 of these builds and haress and if your on the recieving end of this it's no fun trust me

Why do people keep saying PPC's are slow, as far as I can see and certaily from the discussion that has take place so far, they should travel at a significant fraction of c?

I myself prefer the Gauss rifle. Just because I like the fact that there is a possibility of a one shot kill to the head of a mech, and killing the pilot. My favorite load out on a mech was the Devastator, with two PPC and two Gauss... And some medium and small lasers for support...

PPCs are iconic. PPCs are effective. PPCs generate a lot of heat. Once people realize they can't spam it without exploding I think people will move on and find something else they can spam. Let's face it, people who understand what makes an effective mech loadout and have played enough to know how great some of the other weapons are, aren't going to be the people spamming PPCs and will likely mount 1 or 2 of them. It's people who want to hold down the fire button and watch things die that will try to spam them, fail and move on, and good riddance.

I won't lose any sleep over it.

If the game is design properly, all weapons have their own use.
Remember, damage vs heat, ammunition vs energy power.

Go play MWLL, everyone, or watch some matches on YouTube. There are lots of lasers, missiles, Gauss rounds and autocannon shells flying around.

I am genuinely concerned that battlefields will look like one big blue lightning storm.

More like a blue lightning storm for about 2 seconds, then lots of smoke as everyone powers down from the heat for about 8 seconds.

I lol'd
ppc's are "Awesome"

ppc's dont have knock back from what i understand, so there is one down side. when you can throw off another mechs accuracy you will live longer, thats where the autocannon comes in,
