I want more meaningful stats like Asists, Average Assists, Average Damage per macth.

Pug vs group stats. A break down per weight class, per mech, per chassis, per weapon.

Average heat level would be super useful!

That said I'm not wild about them being public.

I like this idea.

Having a top ten or top five list would be great, this would keep those lower on stats unknown and give those that thrive on stats a heads up on how high the bar is. With so many different style of pilots out there, it would be sad for you to shut out one for the other when a compromise could be made.

Keep stats personal!

Having said that... "I" would like to (in game via the GUI) be able to see / assess my personal verbose statics. Don't care about my KDR or anything of the sort... I am more so interested in my hit/miss ratio, average damage done, average assist meta and other statistical info to gauge my battle inefficiencies. ;)

I'm a bit "retentive" and would like working data to self-assess...

The moment we get public stats is the moment this forum gets filled up with this phrase:

"says the guy with a 1/10 K/D ratio. LERN TU PLAY NUB!"

MWO is better than that. If your ***** is so small that you have to compensate with stats from a video game, MWO isn't for you. Piloting mechs is only for REAL men!

This. As soon as you share stats, you get crap like this.

Even if those stats where useful, it's meaningless: A newer player may have gotten good, but the vast majority of his stats are going to be from his learning days where he was roflstomped over and over learning.

Or, maybe he was a scout, TAGging targets for his teammates missile boats. Or, perhaps he's got great stats, but it's because he's a jackass: Deliberately moving into friendly mech's fields of fire to steal kills, or whatever else. Public stats encourage this asshattery, too.

But, these stats aren't useful to being with.

KDR is such a shallow stat for a game like this. Damage done, accuracy, uptime are just a few that I think paint a much better picture of a players skill.

I hate those games where the guy with 4 kills is bragging and at the end of the match he did 140 damage. Just last week I was the last alive in conquest in my Raven and this guy was like "I killed 4 myself why can't you noobs do anything." So I said kills don't = damage done, to which he said wait till end of match and proceeded to call me a lot of names.

Well my Raven did twice the damage he did and yet I had no kills (not that I cared) but it is a good example of people convinced last hitting something makes them good.

I told myself to just stop caring about it and play how I play.

Likewise - and understand I'm not saying this applies to your specific situation - one could have a lot of damage done and no kills because they just spray-and-pray, hitting all over the place and accomplishing little.

That's a result of things like LBX-AC's and missiles of course, and can often also be reflective of brawling with mechs and having a speedy little raven run by and finish things off. A great sniper could have lots of kills and little damage done because he's great at headshots, or perhaps he's changing targets once the current one is disabled but not killed (removing enemy firepower from the battle as quickly as possible).

The point, though, is that you can be a great asset to your team regardless of damage done or kills, and you can be a waste of space even with "good" battle stats.

I'd love this. I'm a huge fan of stats - private stats - but the ones we have aren't useful. Kills to Deaths in particular is worthless, and there's no mention of assists whatsoever in the current stats.

Playing in a premade group exclusively vs. playing in pugs exclusively will have a HUGE impact on your stats, no matter how good you are.

MWO is a much more tactical game than current shooters are. Using "All the other shooters do this" is fraught with peril, because this game is nothing like those other shooters. Stats have a lot of valid use to a player, but without context are meaningless. Making them public deprives them of context, and just turns them into a forum e-peen weapon.

I do second this statement, but I would like to point out that this may not be a bad thing. It could allow for ranked solo matchmaking so pilots who want to face others of their rank could do so. It may also alleviate some of the complaints of new people getting screwed over by experienced pilots. That way new people could play together and move up as they learn.

that's correct but to that end no one would have to be able to see another players stats.. only the matchmaker needs to know them

edit: oops pretty old post i quoted there
well that's what the search feature gets you

Well, the Stats are very meaningless by now. What do the stats count? Nothing really interesting, as long as the assists arent counted too. Or the damage done to get an assist.

By now, you did all the "work" on one enemy and one in the team with his small lasers does the last shot - so he get's the kill, you get nothing for the stats - meaningless in this case.

Some things stats WON'T tell you:

Average Ping
Number of mechs skilled up
Number of caps or cap saves
Role played in match
Percentage of games grouped or PUGed.
Number of crashes caused by Beta bugs.
Number of deliberate disconnects before death to pad K/D
What enemy was faced where.

These are all very important effects on stats. Some are positive, others negative.

Let the stats take care of themselves. Go out there, have fun, and try to help your team win, it's all we can really do.

About the only stat I am interested in is the "are you having fun" Stat.

Seeing as that can't be measured by a computer and is different for each person ah well.

Had fun getting blown up as long as we put up a good fight, also had fun blowing other people up.
K/D is really pointless and if made public will result in even worse stat padding than we see now as that stat is all about the killing shot.

Needless to say I am fairly happy that you can not see others stats and rep is built on encounters with people in the battles rather than looking someone up on a table of numbers.

Ok, please let me know the answer to a question I have been pondering; before we, as a member of the "yep, never played before/Sucked right off the Bat/Score is getting better but Still Suck/ crowd (I'm sure it's just me. I have had two games wherein my Betters commented upon my Poor Gameplay, Sad Chice of Loadout and Meager Prospects) lay out any more money, is this a GAME or a Simulation?
Game? Post them Scores, HAVE AT'EM! It's like Bar night, we play, we kick the losers and stroke the Real Men who Played Better/Had More Experience/Had a Team/Had Communication Systems/etc. Hell, we can DANCE to Dubstep (all REAL Badasses LOVE Dubstep) (and yes, I read an MWO Forum post wherein a member wanted a "dance move" to be added so he could celebrate his victory and Celestial Greatness before we, the Downtrodden, that we might Stand In Awe and Bask in His Awesomeness) while we round up them Large-Breasted Wenches who flock to REAL Badasses guys with Big Kill Scores and Exclusive Clubby-Matches betwen only themselves OTHER Badasses!
Or, perhaps a Simulation; play what you brung, know as little as any foe about your opponent, behave as well as you normally do when you know no one is watching, and try to enjoy something more than "Multiplayer Capture the Flag on Doom3", "Frag-Fest Call of Duty" or the like. TRY not to die, to learn, to adapt and perhaps Overcome if possible. To encounter with what is available against whatever comes down the barrel, and measure it ourselves afterwards, downrange.
Hey, I suck. To me it's a game. Everybody is better than me, even if they die sooner. I know it. Tell me now and I won't waste any more money and you "Best Of" "Badasses" can play this yourselves. I'd LIKE a simulation. I'd LIKE teams who play to win, but to PLAY as a TEAM first. I liked the few books and background I read, but I'm a newbie to this. Let me know, will ya?
And if it IS just another first person shooter-style Game, I got some mechs to selll...cheap...

If you really needed to know someone else's stats go ask them. If you are unable to ask them why do you want to know them?

I am all for them providing more stats but see know reason why they need to be public. Just comes off a little creepy.
