I played my first BattleTech as a freshman in high school, back in 1985.

I got put in the unit's lightest mech, a PNT-9R Panther, and sent around the far side of a mountain range through a very dense forest full of trees taller than my mech. I didn't know much at all about the game, so when I got a purely electronically-detect contact, I got a lock and fired my PPC at it. After my shot, it went... didn't react. I approached, and found the fully-intact Crusader, minus the cockpit after I scored a one-crit hit to the head and plasma-burned the pilot out of existance.

Talk about beginner's luck, huh?

Bought my 3025 tech manual in 86 still have it. played every game from Crescent Hawk on. Not very good at the newer mechwarrior games really bad reflexes hand eye coordination. So I will be the guy on the battlefield blazing away not hitting much but having fun.

Started with the original Mechwarrior PC game and watched my father play the Tabletop as a young one, so I'd say somewhere around '89 or '90.

Been a big fan ever since.

Starflight - now that brings back some memories of really long nights in the computer lab.

I've been dithering over getting back to 'rebuilding' my Let's Play of BT:CHI since I haven't been able to find any other on YT; I had a nasty glitch with the vid cap software at one point and had overwritten the savegame I was using (amateur mistake), so it'd take essentially re-playing large sections of the game I'd already recorded and uploaded... :)

Since BattleTech 2nd edition, which would of been around 1986?. Brought pretty much everything for the game when it was released. Still have it all stashed away.

I first played MW2 at a CompUSA demo computer when I was about 11. I then bought it quickly, added GBL later, then MERCS when it came out. As of today I've played every major release (not 3050 or MWLL) Mech game except MechAssault 2. Because...well MA1 left a bad enough taste in my mouth, I didn't need more.

I'm coming up on 28 now so that's about 16-17 years. I've read a few books too (currently reading The Warrior Trilogy)

Picked up the first Btech source book to read what it was about, turned out to be the House Davion book from the 80's. Hooked me instantly and I read it from cover to cover that night, and I wasn't a big reader back then (I was 10). Hard to imagine but that was 22 years ago :)

I've made it a practice to own every single Btech source book, novel and video game. If you add in the miniatures I have close to I think 3,000 pieces of individual battletech items.

My top 3 however come down to 1 entire set of the 'unseen' mechs before the lawsuits forced their recasting. As well as 4 extra Battlemasters, 2 Marauders and 2 Warhammers.

Second would be my extra set of 'orginal house books'.

Third would be when I 'bought out' a guy who loved the universe as much as me and created a 'second collection' for me. I got pretty much everything I was missing in my first set and doubles of my favorite source books (the House books, the Field manuals, Updates, Merc scenerio packs etc).

I've been slacking pretty heavily the last 2 years as the wife and I focus on getting a house, I just can't kick out $750 to buy all the latest books and PDF's. I'm even debating, from a justifying point of view selling my second collection as a set to be able to buy the last 2 years worth of books, PDF's and give me spending money for the hobby. It isn't that I'm not making decent money, it's that it's very hard to get a GOOD house unless you put every dime you can into your coffers while you don't have a ton of bills. The wife is on the same page so side tracking and buying almost a grand worth of materials worries me in what kind of message I would be showing her when she's sacrificed just as much as I have towards getting this house.

We'll see, I hate the thought of E-bay but every few months I get further behind, I'll have to give it some attention soon, I've been putting it off almost 3 years now ;)

Since 1995 when I was 6 years, fighting for the Clan Jade Falcon. I've played every game since, with the exception of Mech Assault 2. Learned my lesson with Mech Assault 1.

I started after Kali had dropped MW2 on mPlayer affectionately known as Mpig for many years, Was under many banners and call signs with the clans- JW-Hammer, ICExGravis an a few more was every thing from a JadeWolf to a Widomaker and a Ice Hellion. many, many hours logged in C1 and C4 to C5 league matches man I mainly miss the games where we would pit ele's against a lone Timberwolf tho I think some of my fondest memories of mw2 spawned in these games :( played MW2 right up untill Gamespy bought out Mpig
