I've updated the Forest Colony map to fix the broken bridges and my fellow Goon Arquinsiel has generously updated them on his hosting as well.

[edit, original post:]

So last weekend I got quite bored and decided to introduce myself to MegaMek in a most overambitious way:

Its obviously not a perfect recreation, but I think it captures the spirit of the map. I decided to leave out the cave though because I couldn't think of how to do it satisfactorily. Thus it has had an unfortunate collapse and cave-in.

Oh, right, of course. Silly me.

[outdated link removed]

If anyone uses it, let me know how it goes. I'm not very familiar with MegaMek and I haven't played a game of tabletop BTech in almost 15 years, so I'm not really sure how well the map will play.

Amazing, I've been looking at it for a bit, this would make a really awesome mapsheet for TT games.

Its 45x50, which is just shy of a 3x3 of standard mapsheets (15x17 if I recall, or 45x51 for a 3x3). However due to the surrounding walls I'd guess that its probably more appropriate for the kind of forces you'd use a 2x2 map for.

[edit] I'm toying the the idea of trying Frozen City or Caustic Valley next. Caustic is relatively straightforward (aside from the pain of judging elevations) but I'm not sure how to implement that "Hot zone" that is the caldera.

I dunno, River City seems terrifying to recreate.

Posted Image

Terrifying to fight in too, a multi-level dense city bisected by a Depth-1 River spanned by thin bridges that some dedicated 'mech fire could probably collapse out from under a crossing Heavy/Assault.

A version of it is doable, but it would certainly be far looser in it's adaptation than Forest Colony, if only because of the roads (my eternal nemesis when it comes to hex grid systems, I love them otherwise but trying to do an urban center in hexes....)

Also lots my eternal nemesis in Battletech... pavement. SKREEEEEEEEECH!

Wow, just wow. Great work. B)

Is it scaled down version, or just an imitation?

It is roughly to scale, from memory I knew that the two spawn points are somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.2-1.5km apart, so I simply threw the Forest Colony map into photoshop, grabbed a hex grid, and kept resizing the hex grid over the map until I got something that "looked right".

From there I set up the initial valley walls and then the water. After that I filled in the rest of it slowly but surely. Judging the elevations was the trickiest part and eventually I grew looser in my recreation, which I am fine with.

This is great work. I'm willing to bet that FWLM will use this during one of our Sunday Megamek drops.

Ah, yeah maybe I should have not directly linked it. Right click and "save as" instead of left clicking on it.

Alternatively try this.

Yeah. Can you imagine River City if MWO actually implemented pavement skids? It would make all those lights buzzing around downtown a LOT more difficult...
