Ok, so there seems to be some red-headed step child engine sizes in the mech lab.
Especially for the light mechs.
For an engine in the 105-145 range, all of them weigh 2.5 tons.
So why would I even need engines 105-140? Cost?
Above that, the 150 through 190 engines all have 2 choices per weight. So again, the lower rated engine is worthless.
Is there something that I am not aware of in the mech lab?

Engine sizes?

All the engine mechanics work on logic that escapes most sane people...
I don't know why it's done in such a nonsensical way either.
Probably a relic of sticking to the TT as close as possible.

more or less, yes... because the enginesize was determined by choosing how fast your mech should run X chassis weight...
if you wanted a 5/8 movement and had a 50 tons mech, that would mean you have a 250 engine ...
there was no 52 or 55kph, there was just 5 hexes... so the different enginesizes came from different mechweight... (45 tons, 6/9 movement = 270, 45 tons and 5/8 = 225 engine... and so on...so a 45ton mech would never have an engine bewteen 230 and 265, but other mechs would... engine weight)
in MWO there are all engine sizes available for all mechs (up to the limit of a certain chassis lately^^) , making some of them useless... you just choose the fastest one from a certain weightrange (if there is more than 1 engine with same weight)
for refference, you can see the engine table (regarding engine weight by size) in this manual, page 51
