I paid $60 and I already feel like I got my money's worth. I have already had 300+ hours of entertainment. Thats $0.20 an hour; what a deal! And I still have my MC credits and founders mech, and premium bonus.

Thanks PGI. Keep up the good work.

I'm gonna go ahead and agree with this guy. I already feel like I've gotten my money's worth and we haven't even gotten to the best parts of the game (Community Warfare).

Honestly, I think we'll see a decent surge in people joining and playing in Open Beta for the first couple weeks, then it'll start to trickle off once they get bored of the one game mode, but they'll keep an eye on the game to see when new stuff is introduced. People are more likely to come back to an Open Beta where their C-bills/Mechs aren't gonna get wiped every time there's a new patch.

Truth is OP is right I mean if you think the game is "polished" now you're lying to yourself hard. Just by comparison I've played hawken (another mech combat game) and it looks great too but it doesn't have some of these glaringly obvious problems in closed beta.

I also think the development team was going about this wrong having the matches and maps so small. When I think of the Mechwarrior universe I don't just think about mechs. I mean what about the combat vehicles, battle armor, aerospace fighters, etc, I'm not expecting ALL of these so early but when not one. I don't see any way they're going to do it now. You know these are some of the things that make mechwarrior not just "generic mech combat game". It can be SO much more.

I'm sure some of you are going to say that would be too much to do well what about MechWarrior: Living Legends? Its just a mod, uses CryEngine too. Might not look as great as MWO but the gameplay is fun. Blowing someone's leg apart actually has them fall over instead of die, crazy huh?

What's with the stupid grind with "trial mechs"? What's the problem with giving us a basic light or medium of choice or something? I don't want to play MWO if its going to be a grindfest a la korean style face to keyboard smashing. That does NOT make people want to play the game more just cause it takes longer to get "upgrades" or "level up" however you want to put it. In fact I've quit playing many games just for that.

Thats all I have to say. My 2 cents. Take it any way you want. But all I want of this game to actually be all it can be. Not the mess it thinks the public should be playing now.

EDIT: One thing I hope they don't plan to do is start removing popular mech variants and replacing them with pay to play only versions like they did with the centurion. (Like world of tanks, oh God help us.) Sure its just one mech now, but what if they keep doing this? Then its not free to play its free to try and buy the rest. Why not just go with what everyone else is doing with pay 4 power and just have all the mechs upgrades parts etc. buyables with c-bills and MC seems to be working with a lot of popular games.

Why I wonder can't people like the post opener not simply shut up and walk awy if they don't like the game.

To all the " I DO KNOWZ HOW TO MAKE A BETTER GAME THAN THE DEVS" people out there:

-- You are unsatisfied by a game with a development cycle of roughly a year on this engine because it has still bugs like hell ?

=> Its ok you don't like it, you dont have to buy it, just walk away.

-- You are frustrated because the game takes an other development direction than you've expected / would have liked ?

=> No problem, go play an other game.

-- The devs focus on things still under development in this Game is an other than the focus you would have chosen ?

=> Develop your own Game or wait til an other implementation of this franchise.

BUT PLEASE STOP RUINING THIGS FOR OTHERS

Did you ever thought about how you are ruining expectations of people that possibly would have liked the game and who would have been a great addition to this comunity, to the people who actualy love to play this game and are in fact amazed by the incredible quick progress this development does considdering the size of the devteam and the limited recources they are drawing from ?

Did you ever considder the damage you god forsaken whining does ?

I don't know where you saw people saying they can make a better game. All I saw was people addressing legitimate problems the PGI developers haven't yet.

The problems aren't only bugs. Buddy.

I like this game we all do! Thats why we are all here. Telling people, "**** off ******, play your fancy XBOX and whine at someone else!" isn't going to make us feel better about what is going on.

Besides I just was surprised they didn't do some things differently doesn't make me a whiner it makes me a consumer and I just saw somethings lacking and spoke my mind. Its a free world... for now and I'll speak my mind as much as I can.

So far they've done a great job. Modeling is fantastic, physics are very well done. Making a game where you can actually play as a scout and be effective was hard to do and was done well.

I does seem a little early to go to open Beta, but I'd expect they know what they're doing.

One complaint (had to be one :o ) since the last patch the game has slowed down drastically for me, to the point that playing as in a light mech is almost impossible. Hope this is corrected Monday.

anyone from black prophecy beta in here? i was and it was REALLY horrible right before release i started playing it around 4 month before release and most starting quests worked there where some bugs and many weapons you just couldn't use since they where so poorly balanced but it was okay before release only half of the starting quests worked properly and there where many bugs in certain systems but the weapons where better balanced when release came it suddenly was a decent game no quest bugs anymore and new improved weapon balance which made every weapon a logical candidate for use MWO is on the BEGINNING of OPEN BETA status and at least i think that its not half bad for that i also would like to see some things implemented (like showing stats in mechbay, computer voice in game etc.) but im confident that they will patch their way around that its still just beta and i am a fan of the battletech universe so as long as they dont blow it to junk completely i will play the game.... and by the way one game mode can be positive i just remember wot when they added the new mode half of they players where either too dumb to use it or simply blockaded it for being new and thus not to their liking ever played as a defender when you whole team marched upon the enemy base in unity? (even though they should know theres nothing there by the time they arrive) its pretty little fun i tell you ;-)

Think the game is ready for release to the public and for PGI to start taking your money?

Here's what to expect:

-No item descriptions/stats
-no in-game tutorial, only 1 out of game tutorial thats only 10 min long
-only 4 maps, buggy maps
-few mech chassis(variants are nice but still basically the same mech)
-PGI removes mechs/variants with no warning (Where did the Centurion CN9-AH go? - replaced with a real money mech)
-horrible mech lab implementation(tab system made it worse), buggy mech lab
-netcode fails to properly register fast moving objects(now with no collisions)
-questionable pilot xp system(should be options against grinding different variants of what is essentially still the same mech)
-unbalanced weapons
-few weapons/systems(narc?beagle?)
-DHS not working as originally intended
-Horrible match-up system
-Only one game mode (8 vs 8 team deathmatch/capture the base hybrid - PGI admitted this was their 'test' game mode)
-Economy is unbalanced(spend money on MC to buy mechs that you cannot afford to repair)
-crashes to desktop
-random fps drops
-no in-game computer voice(all systems nominal, heat levels critical, outside mission parameters, etc.)
-no music
-not fully implemented in game voice chat system(havent tried this so not 100% sure on this)
-no chat room, no ability to communicate post-match
-no fix to prevent players from quickly grinding for c-bills using a method that I am not even allowed to discuss on the forums(lets just say that its very detrimental to others enjoyment of gameplay)

I think PGI needs to do some full disclosure here. This game is not ready for open beta/release to the public/giving them your money.

Your thoughts?

The things you listed may really bug YOU and YOU may think they are very major and are unable to enjoy the game because of them.

Not ONE of them really bugs me to the point that I do not still enjoy playing the game. Not one of them to me is something that will not be or cannot be worked on in open beta.

To a brand new person that is just excited as hell to play a new mechwarrior title in over 10 years they may not even really care, or they may just be minor annoyances.

They have GOT to get this game in front of a larger audience that is not all wrapped up in their pet peeves and see how the thing runs fully loaded. As Russ said, the basic experience is in place.

Are things missing? Sure. Are there things that still need work? Sure. Is it perfect? Hell no.

But it is time to move forward and quite honestly the thing that will turn off new players more than anything is not what is missing, but is if they are having fun, and you can just look at the forums and see that this is an entirely a personal perspective.

hum...my points of view here, is fairly much as follows:

first of all I came here for the BT storyline, tho this still being beta, I didnt expect all that much of it yet, well...expectations met.
secondly, being a BT and MW fan since battletech for the amiga, I decided to shell out cash for the game, expecting to support game development, but nor expecting, nor desiring any particular advantage, well...expectations exceeded.

it is true the game has its flaws, tho I find the combat modes, are from my computer, mostly functional...the mechlab has its issues, but it seems, with some tenacity, one can usually bypass them.

yea, for now, the game pretty much just mechs shooting mechs, I'd have liked a bit more purpose behind shooting mechs, than just them being there, but hopefully that will come, when the time is there for it.
and yea, its pretty much just a handful or two of different mechs so far, but keeping up on news, it seems, that sooner or later, more will come...I master the art of patience, I will wait.

in essence, as the game is right now, well...could be better...but the primary part of the game; mechs shooting mechs, seem to be working fairly well...

so for now, my advice for those of you dissatisfied with what mwo is now; dont hate, but wait, and you shall in due time, have much fun, and quality entertainment, I have no doubt.

None of us hate MWO. We like it that's why we are here. If I didn't like it I wouldn't be bothering coming here now would I? We know these things are problems and we're putting them out there to be addressed thing is they aren't.

Like every other thread on OB its become "if you don't like it, leave". Which is stupid. It really is. Especially if anyone's thrown money at this game. Customers are a fickle bunch. They're a very entitled set of people. Mainly because they're the ones who throw money at you so you can continue to work.

If you think "its beta" covers the gripes that people have then you're not paying attention. It's strange because the devs are paying attention. They've directly spoken to the community on this subject on several occasions; including the OB announcements. They listened but they made their own decision. They're going to drive away some folks who are already in the Beta. Some new folks are going to come into open beta and be turned off by x ^ y reasons. Anyone saying those against going to Open right now are wrong. We got here because of feedback from the community; not because of positive feedback from a subset of the community.

Does the game need more testing? Yes

Would PGI benefit from more fresh eyes and different systems? Yes

Has my FPS progressively dropped nearly every patch? Yes

Will OB solve it? Maybe

Will it hasten the development of CW? Probably not because more stress and other variables to account for but it could still happen faster because of the move to open and an influx of simoleons

PGI is working uphill, both ways in the snow, barefoot on glass when SUDDENLY wolves from 'The Grey'.

People who say its ready for OB have a valid view. People who say its not ready for OB have a valid view. PGI is always going to be stuck in the middle because that's what happens to any content creator. As a developer you'll earn a rep for always being on time, never being on time, making marginal updates annually, developing iterative releases annually, loving the customer base, hating the customer base, doing it for love of their craft, doing it solely for the money, etc.

Schrodinger called; he said "don't open the box".

Stop alienating each other and prepare to alienate noobs on Monday.

Start working with each other as a community now and prepare to welcome noobs on Monday.

Also; Jenner IIC and Warhammer IIC. I want them now or MWO is going to fail and you're just a bunch of uncaring devs out to take my money.

Love,
Red

PS I'm a dev in real life. I hate all you users but love all your money. :o

I know of the issues the OP mentioned, but still don't think it's wrong to start Open Beta.
Russ explained his / PGI's motives and thats good enough for me.
The problems will be fixed soon enough.

And I still don't regret having bought a Founders Package.
I had fun playing the game, have an amazing Mech and a huge amount of MC and Premium Time to use.

THe probleme with the speed grinding, I'm guessing is people lanching mechs into games, quitting and just getting the income without actually playing. This leaves a team short and sucks. seen a lot of this in the last few days, people disconnectinig within 30 seconds of the games starting. Alternatively their mech jusst stis there.

I belive (cant confirm) that they have rebalanced the repair costs to combat this.... which is going to suck for new player big time. I've noticed that if I get killed and my team looses a match you only come out with about 20k now. previously it was a lot more than that. It combats this practice but will make it VERY frustrating for new players who cant even grind to get a half decent mech.

If they want to combat disconnectors or non players thhen have a thershold of movement or shots fired before you get any reward. its easy enough to see a real player from a unattended kb. Dont penalise noobs. Bots are another thing

Regarding the original post, there are still a lot of problems with the game. Graphics wise its pretty, play wise it needs some work, matching is still **** and there are still bugs in the maps ( I fell through the floor on the river city map tonight).

There def needs tobe more game modes, it wouldn't be hard to think of some..... Mech Derby would be a good one where 2 teams have to race to an end point with the slowest/heaviest mech having to cross the line to win. the smaller mechs need to stop or delay the opposing heavy to win.

Protect the convoy PVP, and definetly a last man standing game would be good.

I would love to see someof the fun non-mech stuff from other games come into it, air strikes and light support tanks etc. Purchasable in the shop for cBills would add more variables.... good to balance gauss and LRM boats, makes small mechs spotting more useful.

More Mechs would be great, want to see the nova and timber wolf but thats another story ;-) they are just sentimental favs from MechWarrior 2.

None of this is essential but would vastly improve the optinos for the game.
