So i was thinking, and if there is a free floating reticule (for the arms only, of course) and if TrackIR is implemented, i was thinking that maybe a possible implementation of TrackIR is to control the arms, and subsequently the arm weapons. This would be kind of like the AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter, which has a chaingun mounted underneath the nose, and it is controlled by something similar to TrackIR. Another option is to set it up so that you could choose to look around the cockpit with TrackIR or have it control the arms. ;)

I'd like to see it implemented(don't have one yet, but plan on it), if only as a way to look about your cockpit. Especially for nVidia Surround or AMD Eyefinity users. This is something that, down the line, could provide a huge boost to immersion that most of us are seeking.

Be aware, though, that TrackIR tracks head movement and not eye movement. So for it to be anywhere accurate you'd have to forcibly fix your eyes forward and then calibrate TrackIR to look where you are pointing it. Then in game you'd have to turn your head with your eyes (keeping your eyes forward at all times) This would be so disorientating that you'd instead have to look at your target with your eyes and then start adjusting your head's orientation to get the reticule on target. (remember the tracking dots are affixed to your head, not eyes)

True, and being able to just look about with the three monitors in Surround or Eyefinity would kind of be moot/self defeating, and be terribly disorienting.

Track IR could be used to get the reticle in the area of the target then a quick button press selects the target near the reticle. Arms auto track the target, and done. Thats the way helicopters do it, they don't track eye motion either.

Getting way to close to auto aim... as technologically possible as it is.

I'd think you'd want to use the trackir only to move your view but not your crosshair, simply because I'm not sure if it would be accurate enough for weapons fire.

Depending on how many other systems you are managing, auto aim can be viable. Blackshark has auto aim and that helicopter still requires a ridiculous amount of effort to employ. Real weapon system employment is more about managing information (gathering as much as you can while giving as little as possible) than place reticle on target press button. I'm hoping Mechwarrior will strike a good balance between reality and action.
