The point about how it affects the metagame is an important one. If planets could be taken in the normal FFP/HLA mode and then re-attacked again in 3pv/NHUA, everyone's forced to play both, and that's a terrible idea.

I'd be okay with 3pv/NHUA as private server options, so long as they have no affect on the real game and players don't have to deal with them unless they want to. The metagame rewards should be enough to draw players back into FFP/HLA and prevent the community splitting, so long as the ezmode stuff is kept to customs.

There was a couple of posts(this one by Brian and this one by Paul) that made me concerned about the possibility of MWO having 3rd person view. I know, there are some die-hard fans of playing in 3rd person but let me bring up some points on why addition of 3rd person view will harm MWO. Thinking that 3dr person view would be a net positive for the game is rather untrue...

Tentatively disagreed - if they can't find a way to get all the visual information displayed that a Mechwarrior has access to, a properly done 3pv will give you the same amount of visual information that a MW gets from his sensor feeds.

There is nothing about 3pv that necessitates these MW4 style problems.

All they have to do is not render anything (terrain, sky, ... anything) a pilot could not see from his cockpit or on his cockpit sensors... 1pv and 3pv parity.

It all depends if they can jam all that information into the cockpit view - 'mech pilots get 360 degree visual sensor displays in their cockpit. The windows are NOT the primary means by which a pilot gets his visual information about the battlefield from.
