Before the last patch, I was in a dragon for a bit and had a hard time until I changed tactics with it. I stuffed in the biggest XL that could fit in there and armed him with UAC5 and 3 med lasers. The philosophy of use i found somewhat effective was as a heavy scout/ fire support role but what i found very effective was as a hit and run pestering back stabber. I would wait for the fight to start, and perhaps do some light scouting. Then as the fight developed I would run in and support a mate in trouble, blasting the enemy in the back as I flew by. i would then circle back and keep doing that until i got their attention, and then run off. Many times this would lead to a kill stealing shot, but my mate was fine with that!
Cheers,
GS
Also this POU lends itself well to the UAC because you have time to unjam the weapon when you are running away and circling around:)

The ssrm cats will be toned down when they adjust streaks so they don't always hit the center torso.

What? They do? Geez, if it's true that's some hard fail.

My Dragon has a Gauss Rifle, XL300, 1 medium laser and two Streak 2s.
My other Dragon has a Gauss Rifle, XL 225? (Runs at 60), has a Gauss Rifle, two medium lasers and an ER PPC and doesn't run hot..I think of it as a baby Cataphract.

The Dragon is not a brawler, don't treat it as such. Snipe, harass or flank with it and you'll see it's much more worthwhile.

Lag is a problem for all players, including those in lights. When that occurs it needs to be fixed.

Lights can be hit. I get hit in my Jenner and I'm using evasive maneuvers a lot. Fast mechs are supposed to be a viable choice, and their greatest weapon and defence is supposed to be their speed and they are supposed to be hard to hit. You give up a lot for that speed. They are not there to be easy knock over targets, but rather a choice for playing the game that shouldn't be totally pointless.

That being said, I'd rather be playing an iconic fast jumping medium mech, but there are none. That being said, currently, I * also * am mounting one streak srm-2 on my Jenner because I find it's really challenging to hit anything sometimes from the cockpit of my mech. It bounces around like an insane amusement park ride when going at full speed and you have to be going at full-speed almost all the time unless you want to get destroyed.

If you are in a slow mech like an Atlas, I'd say let your buddy in a Jenner chase down the enemy Jenner. That's what he's there for, like a escort going after enemy interceptors that are going after your big bombers.

Otherwise, yeah, streaks seem really attractive for me right now, too.

Yeah, SteakCats are great for light mech hunting/defense. Otherwise, they'll be "nerfed" once streaks lock onto random components instead of always on the CT and when ECM is working. Hopefully, the netcode/lag-shield and knockdown issues with fast lights will be fixed before the streak nerf.

Am I the only one who didn't mind getting tripped by lighter 'Mechs? It makes sense to me: Have you ever tripped over something smaller than you are?

I would like to see some damage from it, though. Faceplanting in an armless, 35-ton pile of metal can't be good for the cockpit.
