Thank you for contacting MechWarrior Online Customer support.
Prior to Open beta, in your profile on mwomers.com, there was an option to opt-out of the newsletter. If you had done so, it is normal that you would not have received the weekly update emails.
The October 10th version of the "MechWarrior Online Inside Source" mail had the following:
"In tandem with this huge announcement, we are also officially bringing the Founders program to a complete close. If you or your friends wish to join the thousands of MechWarrior Online Founders, the closing deadline is 11.59pm PST, Sunday Oct 14th. We are incredibly thankful for all of the amazing support from our existing Founders and it is this commitment that allows us to bring MechWarrior Online vision to life."
However, you are correct that this was not mentioned on either the Facebook or Twitter pages, and rightly should have been. We apologize for this, and will do what we can in the future to improve our communication through these mediums.

The Founders program was opened June 16 IIRC and ran to July. Then got extended to August. Then got extended to September. Then got extended to mid-October.

Sorry for you that you missed out on that narrow window of opportunity.

Yup.

I have had issues with their communication, especially just in regards to missing stuff in patch notes and very little communication of upcoming changes beyond "new content promises" - it seems to be getting better though.

We shall see.
