I was wondering if anyone out there used any particular naming scheme for their preferred 'mechs. Do you name them based on their loadouts? Their preferred role? Perhaps something more personal?

Hunchback HBK-4H: Hammer
The sound of an AC/10 or AC/20 firing is like God slamming his car door.

Catapult CPLT-C1: Itano
Named after Itano Ichiro, the animation director often cited as the creator of the Macross Missile Massacre (AKA the Macross Missile Carnival or the Itano Circus). I felt it was an appropriate homage.

Jenner JR7-F: Anklebiter
This one is pretty self-explanitory. There's a sense of perverse satisfaction to be had while running circles around an Atlas and firing 4 medium lasers into its back while shouting, "Now we play the most dangerous game!"

I tend to highlight their roles. Fencer, Siege Engine, Saboteur, or after weapons: Claymore, Rapier, Dirk, Kris, Boomstick, etc.

Seeing as I only run Centurions at the moment, I lean towards Roman themed names. Weapons or unit types are the trend for now.

RVN-STAMPFI (4X)

HBK-DJANGO (4SP)

Playing feeling and hearing them though seems like it has to be the other way around, since Hunchback has a much more stompy walking sound whereas my AC2 sporting Raven surely is the more sharpshooter-badass / however i still love ´em both the way it is :angry:

I started with names like 'Primarch' 'Secundus' etc. while I was trying out Mech building for the first time.

I may start naming them after Transformers now though :angry:

I use military designations or greek letters.

Jenner = Alpha
(I poke you first)

Hunchback = Echo
(the sound from my right shoulder echoes between the mountains)

Catapult = Sigma
(Thought of a storm of missiles first, storm starts with S, thus sigma)

Awesome = Gulf
(Sounds like Golf, dutch for wave, and it's a missile boat variant)

Atlas = Omega
(the end of everything)

I tend to name mine in a more esoteric fashion, though I wish the character limit on names was longer so I could get a little more creative.

CN9-A "Dusk's Edge" is my LRM wielding Centurion
CDA-3M "Dawn's Glint" is my Cicada, though I would have preferred to be able to name is some more along the lines of "Glinting Dawn, Glint of Dawn, etc."

I named my Hunchback 4SP: Errant II
(After my first one named Errant which I got from the IS rank Knight Errant, I named my current one II because I was stupid enough to sell my first one)

And I named my Catapult K2: Indesirable
(Cause every one hates being up against one)

So far I just add a "Mark" designations like those found on the different variants of Supermarine Spitfires; Mk V , Mk III , etc.
