I've been wondering if it's going to be possible for mercs to give out mechs to their members.
It seems to me that there could be some game-balance issues if mercs were to use anything other than a 'use this mech for the next game' type of system.
Gifting of mechs to players from merc leaders could lead to some pretty unbalanced pilots driving around serious equipment, no?

Unbalanced fights would happen, even if this was not added into the game anyway.
Players who are constantly winning with the best equipment. Then players who are constantly losing cause they cant get good equipment/mechs
As far as unbalanced goes.. Alot of players if not most of the players who'll be on this game will do just that. They'll give mechs to their buddies/lances to work on strategies and win matches against opponents doing the same thing. (Most of the time.)
Sure you got players running around with their own hard earned mechs and thats something to be respected, but still. Giving mechs to friends is the kind of unbalancing issue that is countered when you have so many players doing it at the same time all the time.

Not sure. To my knowledge, Merc Corps do not get discounts on Mechs like other houses do with particular Mechs. They just have the highest opportunity for making C-bills, I would think. But no loyalty points beyond their own personal code of honor/ethics.
Giving someone a Mech doesn't make them proficient in it. Back in MW4, I gave my config "Griever" to anyone who asked for it (they were claiming that it was responsible for my success rate) After doing that I battled them head on and decimated them. The mech is just a tool; whether that pilot has skill with the chassis or not will make the difference between success and failure, IMO.

I agree completely with Aegis, i see players all the time in Mercs that grab the biggest most heavily armed chassis available and get owned by someone in a medium simply because the guy in the Med is a better pilot.

I guess I was also concerned with whether there would be any form of player-to-player mech transfer at all.
It wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility to disallow it entirely, since we already have no salvage rights.

Maybe a system where you cannot GIVE a Mech, but must sell it at no more than X% under market value. Would make it so the user's would have to have the C-Bills to allow the transfer.
Needless to say I share your concern with people abusing the market. It's something we'll need to keep an eye on.

I'm not so much worried about cheating per se. It's the ability for a few hardcores to do all the work and other ride in on the coat-tails, that bothers me. Or actions that are similar.

I've not heard anything from any dev about sharing mechs with your friends. Until I read this thread I'd never heard of such a thing being possible, let alone desirable (or not). As far as any of us know, we'll buy mechs without knowing where they come from, driving them ourselves, and selling them without any control over where they end up. As long as the marketplace remains "blind" and prices are fixed by the devs, I can't see a problem.

I dont think it will happen , or we will see mechs on E-Bay.

100% agree, I had some freaky configs in MW4 that very few people ever got the use of. I never kept any of them a secret, they just suited my playing style. I could never get the hang of the ERLL Black Knights or Novacats, but others made good use of them. The only mech I used that a lot of others did was the LBX10+2xLBX20 Thor. It was a proper n00b machine, but it worked so well!
