Just a schoolmarm 'No.'?

No veiled propaganda?

No Flair?

Newbird?

I was expecting more 'bad teacher' and less 'schoolmarm'...

The Hobbit: Enough intelligent bird awesome to make it worth seeing? I hear it's at least got giant eagles if not Tetatae.

Worth seeing? Yes. Worth paying the extra for HFR? Only if you would rather see an episode of MTV's Cribs with Tolkien characters. If you want to see a solid film based on a beloved fantasy fiction tale from (most of) our childhoods, stick with the 24fps.

Oh wait, I can't actually *answer* questions in here, can I?

Yes, your cartoon trolling is masterful. Good job.

Yes, things get stupid when I am too sober. It's the cumulative hang-over that does it.

If you enjoy playing Mechwarrior Online at 24 fps, then see The Hobbit at 24 fps. If you prefer a superior experience, go for the superior experience.

Perhaps it is just my age then, but HFR gives away to much of the illusion, imo. By looking all hyper-detailed, it breaks the illusory reality they are trying to create. Looks like I'm watching the Home Shopping Network, not a movie.

Besides, what's the fun of dwarfs fighting orcs if you can make out the plastic/rubber/general fakeness of the suit they wearing and it no longer looks like skin?

15 years from now, folks who only grew up watching HFR will react similarly to older 24fps projections. "Why is there so much motion blur, where is all the detail?"

Same can be said for the digital vs. film arguement. If we had spent the last 100 years watching digital images, and suddenly someone invented photochemical film, everyone would be all "Its inferior, it will never compete, it looks wrong, why is there so much dynamic range, what's with this 3-pack color, where are all of my artifacts from de-bayering the sensor? What's going on?"

Basically (save for those last bits) the same stuff film folks said about digital stuff 10 years go. It's as much an aesthetic as it is a technology, same for HFR.

We bear no animosity to the humble yet mighty Pug. It's pubs that we are less fond of.

Is there an actual gaming distinction between Pug/Pub, or do you just like dogs? ;)

Genuine question. For example, I don't think the term "pre-made" makes an adequate distinction between Units that game together across multiple games and Randoms With Voice who team up but don't really know each other or play together frequently.

But I'm not all hip the the swanky gamer slang either. :)

PuG: Pick up Game(er) Random player in a game.
Pubbie: Lowest common denominator

I hope that explains it :(, can't go in depth here because of CoC and wordfilter.

Pubs call pubs pugs, and all pugs are pubs.

Actually, it does. Sort of reminds me of that condition of the unskilled where they think they are skilled.

<<insert not so subtle - yet inexplicably obligatory since we are interneting - self-deprecating meta-joke where I try to demonstrate the aforementioned psychological phenomena while lacking the knowledge to call it by name>>
