In fact, there is a good chance that if you do, you will shoot a team mate in the back.

I swear, if one more [very nice pilot] in a Yen-Lo-Wang half-cores my Jenner at game start, I'm going to start TKing.

C'mon, you should play with us in the Liao teamspeak server more often, things like that won't happen. :(

You need to if you alt-tab into the forums on your second monitor.

But you can also press the right mouse button - just don't use a button bound to a weapon group.

You could always alt-tab back into the game to prevent this.

Always treat your mouse/keyboard/joystick buttons that can fire weapons just as if they are loaded guns. Keep your fingers off of them until you are pointed at something that you are willing to destroy.

This is a team game, even if you are PUG'ing and don't know the other people on your team. At the minimum, you owe them some self-imposed trigger discipline. If that means you need to wait until the guy in front of you moves away at the beginning of the drop, then wait.

Same thing for grouping your weapons, just to be on the safe side.

Yes, this is incredibly annoying. The next time I get shot by a teammate 5 seconds into the match, they're going to have to deal with my Atlas unloading on their face.

Possible solution? Disable team damage for the first 5-10 seconds in a match. It wouldn't affect overall gameplay at all, and it would solve this problem of getting shot in the back right off the bat.

...or just disable weapon firing for the first 5-10 seconds. A nice little 'command rejected' bleep from the mech as the weapons are still cycling up would do it.

... or just leave it as it is and require a minimum of discipline from the players. There's a wait time of what? 30 seconds + 10 seconds countdown after hitting the launch button?

An easy fix I've found is to Alt-Tab and hit (ESC), then click on the "Pause screen".
Keeps the FF down to a minimum, and I retain full controls.

And no weapon lock for more than 1-3 seconds, 5 is enough for an Elite light pilot to cross the map.

If you Alt-Tab out of the game...Alt-Tab back in, dont click, clicking the game icon to go back in will fire your weapons in game...possibly into my back.

Or another simple fix. Change initial mech deployment so that noone is standing in front of the other.
And yes, you should STILL hold your buttons until you are sure on them!
And please dont shoot just for the exciting sounds and lights. It reveals your position and possibly hurts a team mate. (It also encourages TK on you...)
