Greetings aspiring MechWarrior!
You are probably wondering what the best mech is best weapon loadouts are and how you can possibly earn some cash C-Bills. Well the quickest ticket to the Assault Mech of your dreams is going to be something cheap to repair that is customizable.
My suggestion to you: Save for a Jenner! I prefer the Jenner F variant.
You can grind it out while getting a hang of piloting all in a day or two.
The Jenner F can be a great C-Bill earner with 6 Small Lasers and a very large helping of heatsinks. After you load that puppy out make sure you save for your large XL engine next (XL300 recommended!). You will learn the mechanics of the game fast enough while having low repair costs.
This mech will farm C-Bills with the best of them while not draining your winnings each round.
Good luck and remember, don't complain about teams - JOIN ONE!

Repair cost are based on the cost of individual components and the armor you have.
A Commando has little armor, a small engine, and not that many weapons...

If you want to see your repair costs, you have to uncheck auto-repair. Just don't forget to repair and re-arm manually before fighting again.

Or don't. If you're tight on cash, you can use the free repairs and free ammo. You won't be at 100% hp, but you'll have some armor and ammo for the match. This works best for Zombie or LRM boats.

I am Sandpit and I approve the OP.
I don't believe any one mech is better than another (That's always been the beauty of BTech in my opinion) but for a beginner the Jenner is relatively cheap, forgiving, and fun to play. You can come up with all kinds of interesting configurations in it and keep your repair bills fairly reasonable in most cases.

Sandpit,
Yes your take on cheap but effective items on smaller mechs is the way to go!

Jenner is good but I still prefere the commando (of the light mechs). It's fast and with the right configuration you can even do good damage (if you know what you are doing). Maybe not the best beginner mech but it's very cheap to maintain. Even if we are defeated I will be left with at least 70k after repairs. That's just what I think.

i'm new - riding a jenner - the one with 2missile / 4 energy slots... and i love it!
so i totaly agree!
but! - and here comes the noob- part: can you put a "XL300" in a jenner? thought that would not fit... but it is possible, yes?
atm i play: (jr7-d)
small laser (4)
streak srm (2)
dhs (11)
jumpjet (1)
ferro-fibrus internal
endo-steel armor
st.engine 245
- any hints on loadout?
