I have been running the Death's Knell (also works with 1B)
XL 195
ER PPC
2 Medium Lasers

Don't laugh, it works :D Often the target of the PPC shot starts looking for the "big guy" that must have sneaked up on him :P
Best round was 4 kills and I didn't die (admittedly, 2 of two of those were already torn up a bit).

Since I just finished Elites on 3 Commandos, I thought I'd share my favorite loadouts.

By far my favorite Commando the 3a:

As long as you don't run into a 2d or 3l without backup this thing can be a beast. Scout smart and backup your big boys.
You can also do this one with 2X MPL and a SRM 4...but it runs a little too hot for my tatses.

My 2d:

I'm not a s good with these as many other players and preferred my 3a for fun factor. A lot of players will strip armor or put in a smaller engine to fit in a Med Laser and or more heatsinks.

My 1b:

Only 2 missile tubes made this one hard to figure out a decent loadout. I ended up with the SSRM and found it worked well enough and didn't need much ammo to last a full match. If i was to do it again I would have gotten the 1d and done a 2ML 1SRM6 build instead of this guy.

Random notes:
I find that armor on your head may actually be the most expendable place if you need to shave off a few. It almost never gets hit unless you decide to bathe in an LRM volley.

My builds include keeping the front and back of your Commando equal in armor, and besides the 2D, will allow you to run with full armor. The way I see it, they'll be seeing your back just as much as your front.

Personally, 2D > 3A >> 1B; I don't think either of the other two are even worth your time. 4 ML or even MPL won't cut it, and the other one has very weak missile hard points.

Unless you have an ECM or are running with someone you know will have an ECM and are willing to shadow that person, my mentality is that SRMs will be more useful, albeit they will be much more difficult to use.

1B Build http://mwo.smurfy-ne...7dce126da34883a

The SRM6 comes out in spurts of 2's, so it can be very difficult while chasing down a mech, but on the other hand, you can almost at least get one set to hit because it will kind of track your target for you. Great at taking out heavier Mechs, horrible when it comes to fighting anything with Streaks.

3A Build http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c3e4b75c6e40507

Best thing about this, is that it the missiles come out in one splat, so you can do some serious damage if you get into good position. Further, SRM6 in the torso over the arm in case that gets blown off. Or, you can drop a ton of SRM ammo and updrade the SRM2 to an SRM4 for fun time. If you can get a good salvo off against another light, you'll be on easy street.

2D Build http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=5&l=a3182ed5f475ed88cea41d71c92466f3753177f5"

Fairly standard. You sacrifice a max engine for an ML and another ton of SSRM ammo. Alternatively, you can get the max engine, remove a ton of SSRM ammo, and swap an SL. Easiest, and most effective Commando.

Doh I just realized the 3a build has the wrong armor allocation.

I use the 13/11 sides 21/11 center on it since lining up those srm6s require facing your target...but was not fully sure what would be the best way to allocate the armor. I'll see about editing that.

You may have a point with the equal amounts. I'll play around with it as I work on my masters with them.
