That's the great part about Mechlab. It's a puzzle to solve in the best way you can.

As far as pure energy based configs go, while easier to operate, they usually suffer from rapid overheat which curtails overall dps compared to a 'mech loadout that mixes in ballistics and/or projectiles. Heatsinks lessen this effect, but there comes a point where you invest so heavily in heatsinks that the dps is again, lower than a config with mixed weapon types.

i didn not see it may i missed it but can Engines be repleaced? like on the cicada can the Pitban 320 be replaeced with a Vox 280?

way i see it: Paul opens up his console, types a command and your mech starts ballet dancing as he sits back and at his leisure picks you apart with a SMALL laser.

As a whole I think I will like it. I'm not crazy about the hard point limitations. I understand the why of it but I was hoping for a little more leeway for customizing. And not being able to add jump jets unless the original config allows for it is kind of a bummer. Hopefully they can loosen up the reins a bit in the future.

Thank you very much for this introduction to the mech modification process. Change colors and camo schemes are a very very nice touch. I can see were Guilds/Clans will make use of this by having a standardized look.

I am wondering though, will there be an emphasis on guild/clan mech modification enhancements?

My thinking would be that clans would earn money through combat and merc contracts, and have a way to invest those funds in hiring researchers to research various equipment to produce slight improvements available only to those that research them.

All games are about the social experience, grouping together, pooling resources, and building something greater then just a name. Gamers want to build their own facilities and enhancements, working together to give the team an edge over their opponents.

The Mechwarrior universe has unlimited potential to mesh research advances with the discovery of lost tech / star league technology.

How the game approaches this will be greatly anticipated.

The game play is where most of my interest is focused, so I won't mind the specifics as long as there is a working mech lab. This one looks like it will exceed my expectations.

Again, I'm not seeing what the big deal is. Most of the Battletech universe had dozens, if not more, variations on the Inner Sphere chassis, hardpoints help in that regards.
