Alright, so I've always had this thing where I hate being forced into a certain color scheme (or even worse, just one single color). Mechwarrior has always been about customization, but from what I've seen from the screenshots released so far, it looks like we're probably going to be forced onto either Red Team or Blue Team, at least for the Beta. I'm refering to all of the in-game screenshots that aren't from GDC.

Way back in the day when I had gotten my original X-Box and X-Box Live, I used to play MechAssault 2 all the time. The whole Red vs Blue thing got so annoying for me that I eventually played nothing but FFAs, JUST so that I could choose my colors.

Personally, I think that a 'mech is a part of the player/pilot and should be able to be painted however they wish. This would also allow Mechwarriors to actually make use of camoflauge appropriate to both the enviroment they are fighting in and their own playstyle, or to completely ignore it and boldy stride into battle in their personal heraldry. It should be up to Merc Corporations and House Units to enforce their own 'dress code' amongst their members.

Your thoughts?

I think house players should have their house and unit symbol somewhere on their mech, but besides they should be able to chose their own paint scheme. Radar will tell apart friend from foe easy enough.

Same as Oppi but with the Merc groups too, same merc icon but different paint if they so choose. Having a whole unit in the same colour scheme does look awsome though.

Noone should be forced to color his mech in a special scheme.

But most Units would do this, just because of the gameplay advantage...

I think that player created merc commands should allow for a mix of colorshemes, but canon house units like the 2nd Sword of Light should have a forced skin.

Each player will be using Loyalty points to unlock their favourite faction skin. It's highly unlikely that 12 players would all choose the same one, or even have access to the same one. Watching the demo, friendlies are tagged with a green arrow above the mech on the HUD, whilst enemies are tagged with a red arrow. I wasn't paying attention to the radar, but that's probably the same. And that's all you need.

Not again red and green arrows...please guys use parade colors of your unit. If you paint your mech (jade)green - i will shoot you no matter what the arrow color is

Paint them as you will and let the IFF and radar do their job

This. otherwise what would be the point of customization/paying for special "looks" for your mech?

it would be great to be able to shoot a mech and damage their IFF so they could not tell easily who is friend or foe (if they don't know the paint schemes/colors of their lance mates.

Plus having an Awesome or Atlas start chewing up their own lance by mistake would be hysterical to watch.

i like this, if your representing for a specific unit, then your not doing a very good job of it running around in a pink mech

that said, anything but red vs blue
please anything

even green vs purple or yellow
just not red vs blue

Well this is no Team Fortress... so i guess its up to them to decide on which suit they should go to the killin' party. Let the houses sort them out with their own requirements if they will.

Or perhaps they should make wearing the House's Insignia and collors on the battlefield an add for extra Loyalty Points.

I think company colours should be the rule of the day. With friendly fire activated, it will help out a bit. That won't help out much if both units have the same camo pattern, but so be it... that is what the radar is for. Just don't complain if you're on my team and you offer me up a sweet back shot! :D

Certain aspects of the paint job should fit in with your House or clan. Full customization should be reserved for mercenaries, lone wolves for hire and other, IMO.

I prefer to have my own paint scheme. :D

But forcing colors by faction choice (House, Merc, Clan, etc...) would give Lone Wolves a minor advantage possibly...

While you could expect most house units to share camo patterns based off of their unit and where they were deployed, expecting all house mechs to have the same paint is a stretch, and it gets downright laughable to believe that merc units would keep the same camo.

The red VS blue stuff is just dumb anyway, because no one would paint their mech for just one battle...over and over...that is what a radar system is for. If you hot drop onto some planet, you may not know who all is there, that's where radar, intel, and knowledge become key.

I say, paint away!

At the very least, if people in the great houses want uniformity, only allow camo purchases of that houses known camo patterns and colors, but give people a few choices at least...

This would make money in the online store, and if they sell custom skins in the store. Players better be able to use it, or people will get angry.
