To all the new folks, I just want to take a moment and apologize if you've found the 'vets' less than hospitable over the last couple of days. I hope that the majority of you found the closed beta folks to be warm and welcoming, helpful and at least gracious in either victory or defeat.

For those of you who have had bad experiences, I hope you will stick around and give the game a chance. It really is a great game (and community) for the most part, and I'm sure it will only get better. I truly believe that PGI means well, and are talented developers with only the game and communities best interests at heart. I know for a fact they want their baby to succeed and they want us to stick with them every step of the way.

I will add that after they reimplemented the stat board tonight, I was very surprised at what my stats showed. The fact they were so inflated tells me there are a lot of new people struggling out there and I would like to invite any newer players who have questions or would like to just bounce ideas off my unit, to please feel free to send myself or any other 1RDR (Gowan, Surtr, Zeitler) folks a message and we'll do out best to help. We go out of our way to try to make MWO a fun experience for everyone and hope that you will continue to stick with the game, train and become the dangerous opponets and valued allies we know you to be.

Yes, please please please! Hit us up for info, questions, anything! This isnt a recruitment effort (unless you are genuinely interested) this is a good faith effort to help new or struggling users beef up their game!

I'm here to help as well!

I have two threads started to help new players and many others have done the same. Go nuts on the question!

http://mwomercs.com/...ngs-new-pilots/

I want to train new people to be worthy enemies. One-sided games are boring as get-all, close fought games is what I'm looking for.

Only insulting thing I have seen pugging is when a premade declares that they are then stomps the pugs, then before the last guy dies says "close match", "great match", ect. No class with those folks.

Thanks for the links Nungunz!

Cons3quence, not necessarily desperation, just trying to ward off frustration or ill feelings before they take root. Being a new player to a game with an established community can be daunting, especially when it's a team focused multiplayer game. Just having a few simple questions answered, or being shown a little good will can go a long way.

Thanks for weighing in though!

If my team has just been flattened like target drones, 'Good Game' isn't something I want to hear from the people who flattened them.

Exactly! However, close match when obviously it was not is more insulting.

Why not? Good sportsmanship is never wasted.

Even the team that gets beat 50-0 in a football game lines up and shakes hands with the other team at the end.

I have been in a losing 8-0 match before, but we fought hard. We may not have killed any of them, but they knew they were in a fight. The winners were being magnanimous, that is not a bad thing.

Unfortunately things like emotions (including sincerity) can't be easily conveyed via text.....especially since there is no post-game chat.

Everyone assumes the worst otherwise.

Anywho, any new pilots out there looking for a group? I have a few hours free to help out.

I only PUG but I have won about 15 of 25 games with a K to D ratio of 3+. I must admit though after getting trashed by a couple of premades, one that mocked us I was pretty turned turned off. If I wasn't in beta and holding my own in most matches I would of rage quit.

Because emotion cannot be conveyed via text, and it's very, very easy to read a "GG" after an obviously bg as being sarcastic, I would actually prefer that pre-mades just shut up and keep sucking on their space-bucks pype.

It's been a depressing few days since Open Beta because of this exact mentality. In closed beta, we had a great group of people ... or at least everyone I had the opportunity to play with was ... and even in the roughest of times, the forums were also a good solid group of humans (a few exceptions but I'd rather look at the positives  ). The doors open and suddenly I'm witnessing some extremely vocal, very rude behavior ... very childish ... as if a quiet group of horrific closed beta players suddenly appeared out of thin air and decided they could no longer resist rubbing their status in the face of others that they lesser beings. Today, for example, people were barking in the LFG Teamspeak groups "Looking for a non-new player for dropship X" ... "looking for a player, no trials". I also see it in chat "how many CBs are on? If you've been here since August go (left, right, Gline) everyone else go play in another place" ... really ... is that how you see the game improving at all?

We should be focused on being ambassadors for the game ... welcoming new players, teaching them not only best tactics but best behaviors, protocols and Mechwarriorship. Unless you have no interest in combating in a community with any form of skilled players, then by all means keep that wall up to repel the new players. Otherwise, we need to bring them in and teach them so that the pool of skilled players grows ... this in turn should enhance all of our experiences ... right?

Or is the ePeen call too powerful to resist :)

Keeping in mind that there are no official teamspeak servers and I'm not sure which one you were jumping on, but the one I frequented in Beta still doesn't have any of those types of recruitment going on.

No, the worse thing I've seen are people actively trying to ferment hatred of different player groups.

I certainly agree with your last paragraph

I'm absolutely down with helping out the new players, also to show the new players how wonderful it is to really engage with team side of the game.

One of the beta ts servers is at this address: 109.228.29.191

you should swing by say hi, there are a lot of people happy to discuss the game help you out with mech building tips and piloting, also you can join the pick up pre-mades in the drop ships or check out the houses and merc corps.

IF you happen to come by drop in the to Dead Man's Hand channel and we'll be happy to run with you.

see you out there

We've faced DMH a couple times. Good players and seem like good chaps.
