Before I start this, let me make something clear: If you are doing your best to welcome newcomers to the game, or for that matter, just not being a colossal jerk to anyone less skilled then you, then you needn't worry about this post.

In the last ten minutes I played a game against a premade group that just about made me lose faith in the community here. I won't name names, and not just because of the policy against calling out players (or clans...or whatever the heck you call yourself...) but I will say that I have played against some of the players in this group before and it disgusted me to see them stooping to such a low level. Never mind that we lost, and never mind that I was playing a completely unoptimized, un-minmaxed atlas (that I totally came up with in another post about a half hour ago) and the entire other team was running perfectly optimized doom machines. Don't worry about the fact that I ate a third of my Atlas' hp in an LRM volley through 2 AMS cannons from 4 different enemy mechs, all of which were out of sight (I was running a build completely designed to mitigate this, BTW). This was the definition of the title brought up earlier in the beta, the fabled "death squad" that everyone laughed at and assumed would never happen in the real game.

And none of that is a problem. You know what the problem is?

2/3rd's of my team were newcomers while the remainder of the team just tried to rally the troops, and that premade was made up of a bunch of jerks that enjoyed scaring away everyone who played in that game.

If that long sentence was TL:DR, then this should suffice:

This premade just made 8 people hate MWO, and it is not a unique scenario.

/End TL:DR;

It was sickening. Literally sickening. And it's not PGI's fault, the reality is that if those of us that know what we are doing weren't pulling this kind of crap then there wouldn't be a problem. Premades stomping pugs is fine, most newcomers that are going to stick with the game will stick with it anyway, knowing that if they learn, they can do the same stuff. But no new player will stick with a game where they are treated like dirt from the outset, not unless they are either sick in the head or among the same kind of people that make up the MOBA community, and either way, those people won't help Mechwarrior succeed.

In short, quit blaming PGI for screwing things up and start looking at yourself and the players on your team. If you drop solo and end up with a premade full of jerks, tell them to knock it off, take screencaps and (without posting them on the forums) get them to the devs. I'd say Beta tickets, but I can't find them. ( :) ) Don't join in on that behavior, even if the other team responds, because the other team will respond, especially if they have newcomers, out of anger and fear.

PGI hasn't screwed up the game or the open beta launch nearly as bad as the community has. Not all of us, but some of us. While PGI didn't account for how awful some among us have turned out to be and should definitely take steps to fix it, the reality is that we need to police this crap ourselves.

While matchmaking should be a priority, the reality is that we need a tribunal, similar to what League of Legends has, and soon. Why am I bringing up League of Legends? Well, because there are people on here acting like they are among the LoL community, or in the case I just experienced, the DOTA community. In case you didn't know, this is far below the standard that the MWO community is trying to maintain. This needs to be stopped NOW, before it gets out of hand.

And to those of you that are trying your best, I sincerely apologize and hope you understand why I am posting this. The majority of you are behaving just fine and are excellent opponents and teammates, but something has to be done about those that aren't. They are killing the game before it can get off the ground.

Said they were part of a clan (though they corrected the new players over and over again that they weren't actually a "clan" in the most condescending way possible, totally referring to the Clans meaning Clan wolf, jade falcon, etc) and pretty much stated from the outset that we should bend over in significantly worse terms. They then heckled the crap out of every player on our team until some of our newer players started heckling back, and things got out of hand. First time I've seen it get this bad. Thankfully nobody started cussing, cause that would have just made things stupid. Hilariously enough they weren't actually that good, they were just running the generic 2 Jenner, 1 Hunch and 5 Cat "We'll eat your whole team with LRMs!" nonsense that no PUG could possibly counter.

I know this group. They are childish scum.

I think you should report this to pgi. Maybe, and I shudder to use the beta word, but this kind of behavior should not be tolerated in a beta.

Yep a lot of people are sick of the Clan taunting, the advertising of their little Clan, and the smug little comments ingame..
.
I have a Clan for FPS, and we aren't officially supporting or playing MWO until it's out of Beta..
Too bad MWO didn't have dedcated/rentable servers... You know what I mean...
Of all of the FPS servers my CLAN has rented, absolutely "NO" advertising was allowed, and any rival Clan "NOT" showing respect would get a beatdown, and then temp banned, and I would wait for their members to log onto our website, and either "BEG" to play our server again becausue their hanky little Clan didn't run one of their own, or they would try to flame the forums, and at that point the thread was never seen anyway...
.
But this is not an FPS with dedicated servers, nor will it ever be.. Oh Well... I ran into that Clan's team in front of 6 of their players and "CURBSTOMPED" their Clan-mate in front of them... All they could do was watch, then they all opened fire, but they were too late.

If it's the guys who go "Squak" they do that everywhere. Not just in this game. If you get past their initially abrasive personalities you will find that they are actually well organized and pretty competent with tactics. Not that I condone their verbal tactics mind you, but they use the open chat channel as a weapon to undermine their opponents. If you let them get under your skin, you have lost some of your edge. If you focus, get your team to focus, then you can still own them. Just try to ignore the white text.

Incidentally, it is because of this group that I requested that we have the ability to turn off the visibility of the opposing team's chat if we desire. Alternatively, we should at least be able to put players on ignore.

PGI, if you read this - you need these chat features in game. You should never have gone open beta with it missing, but now that you have, this should be part of the phase 1 matchmaker changes.

Just sent the e-mail, unfortunately they said their name at the very start of the game and I forgot it in the ensuing chaos. Hope PGI can see the chat logs. Next time I see them (which I hope I don't) I'll be nabbing a screenshot and sending it in. Been playing since halfway through closed beta or so and haven't seen anything like this until now.

Thanks for the heads up.

In my world, it isn't an acceptable tactic to be a douche.

It wasn't their fault, they had no idea that this nonsense would explode the way it has. That having been said, we definitely do need chat fixes, among a number of other things, we just haven't needed them until now.

Also, this is a different clan from the one that goes "squak", I think I've played those guys before too and they are nowhere near as bad.

I was grouping with my two brothers (both very new to the game). I had crashed to desktop and was waiting to get back in. Both brothers were getting laughed at for various reasons for not knowing mechwarrior. I was livid.

Mostly because both brothers own a house, have very good jobs and just play for fun...and were being made fun of by mouth breather kids in their moms basement.

I think i've seen this kind of group yesterday in this very time... but lucky me I can smacktalk back like a boss. :)

I'm running most of the time alone or with 1 or 2 of my buddies I found ingame, and all I do is to help my team by giving helpful advice like in River City "take cover behind the buildings" .....

If you know the maps very well you should be giving people help as commander or just via team chat.

Wait, are my eyes funny, or are there two TL:DR sections, each of which rivals the original statement in length?

And did somebody mention squawking in a negative light? I will not have my spotless honor besmirched.

Good day, gentlemen.

That is a sad effect when somone loves to do nothing but try and bad mouth to win. Somethings just go way way to far.

I hope either sometype of filter is allowed or these type of people get a temp ban or warning or such excuses for a first major offense of this type of nature to teach that its not tolerated.

My clan has gotten into a match where opposing team l ended up dropping with 6 and yet another disconected. We gave them the option to move to another location on the map and settle there and not fire upon us. The actually accepted the terms and they left the watch with no repair costs and made c-bills after we capped their base so they could enter and go in with a complete group next time rather then getting a heavy loss and repair and rearm costs beacuse they were out manned by another premade group.

The other Team thanked us for the thoughts and honor of holding our word so they could enjoy some good 8 v 8 Matches.

Yeah it definitely was. If you remember their name, send it to PGI via the support email address. I honestly can't remember what it was. Just don't post it here.

I've played maybe 20-30 thirty games in premade with most of the same people on the NTNG Teamspeak server tonight and nobody ever wrote anything rude to the other team. It didn't matter how badly we were stomping or if we were losing, we just focused on ourselves and enjoyed the game.

My point is, not all premades are made up of people who take pleasure in "owning" other people and being rude. Some just enjoy teamwork.

Anyone that cares about this game should know that being an ******* is just making it worse, and by extension, making it worse for themselves as well. Arbitrary match results notwhitstanding.

Also to anyone still on the fence about premades, you should really check it out! I did it for the first time tonight and it was a blast.
