So, the general implication is that, for a pilot in the defender role, the best color he could possibly pick would be pink, because everyone would target him?
Interesting.

What if... uh... the terrain is pink and you're just trying to blend in?!

Good luck with blending in :)

Pink? Is a good color. So is yellow. And purple. Luckily, we get to pick THREE! HUZZAHS!

You could call it "Cocktail Bar Camo". :)

What about using a pink Jenner as a decoy? Maxed armour, maxed speed, ditch the weapons. It runs rings around the enemy while they blaze away at it ineffectually. Meanwhile the rest of my company move into position unopposed.

I'm pretty sure that once you get to the point where you're piloting a battlemech, you basically threw subtlety straight out the window.

What? Nonsense! It's not like they make a thunderous noise and literally shake the earth every time they take a step! owait.

The point of camouflage in the context of BattleMech combat isn't at all to 'sneak up' on the enemy, but it does have a purpose. It helps break up your silhouette to encourage misses. Of course, that doesn't work so well in a video game with a clear definition of player models and stuff, but still, it's there for fluff. It might also be helpful for, say, a stationary and/or shut down mech, for example, in a forest. Where he might be overlooked by a passing glance or cursory scan for hostiles, but even this tends to not work all that well in video games.

I used to wear pink armour in HALO (the first) because I was so much better than the folks against whom I routinely played it was just meant as salt in the wound. B-)

Clarification: I was not in any sort of absolute measure very good at HALO, not at all XD. But I was/am vastly 'less bad' than the other people with whom I engaged.

And this completely disregards the idea of exploiting potential colour/gender/stereotype correlations by colouring your Mech pink in order to make players assume you're a girl and therefore bad at video games.

For clarity: I am NOT saying that females are bad at video games. I'm saying that generally that is the perception (fallacious though it is, it still is), and if you can get someone to relax on the assumption that you're bad, you've given yourself a (perhaps very slight) advantage.

What is the big deal about pink any ways? Are some of you suffering from that sever of a case of Homophobia that you're afraid that just the site of it will turn you gay? This is just a GAME who cares if pink isn't a standard millitary color

Spoiler

LOL

Though, seriously, I can see why the developers might prefer to keep certain colors as a market or premium item - it helps keep the battlefield 'clean' so we at least don't get a technicolor Battlemech spectacle...

I can't wait for this to take the same route as Space Marine.

The ones in shiny, bright colours end up being riddled with bullets. The more non-descript ones survive.

And so goes the circle of life.
