I would just love it if they put an AMS on the trials. I hate being matched up with 5-6 trial mechs who die and barely do any damage. By giving them an AMS they'll at least provide SOME utility.

The Awesome isn't as bad as you state but it is definitely counter effective for your team. The Awesome itself is basically just an inferior Atlas. By rolling an Assault you cause the enemy team to get +1 Assault. But since you're in the crappy one... you just your team at a disadvantage if the enemy +1 Assault is an Atlas.

As others have noted, this mech is fine...you just have to know how to pilot it for what it's good for is all.

When I just want CBills, it's the mech of choice!

I hang back, and focus fire on targets receiving LRMs from my team...you don't have enough ammo to be effective by yourself.
Once out of ammo, it's time to move in, and become LL fire support, and if you swing your torso on incoming fire....spreading damage, etc. you will do well.

I had no problems tearing up Founder Hunchies(giant target there), Centurions, Cats, etc.
Just don't face off with anything bigger than you, or that has a weapon that can punch your cockpit out in one shot and the mech will treat you well.

So, which trial mech should we use? The raven, a slow scout? The dragon, which is basically a free kill for the other team? Or the cent, which, while not a free kill, is definitely half-price.

Sorry, but the awesome is the only one that can actually kill other mechs.

I can tell exactly how a match is going to go when we start. Success is usually correlated to the inverse of the number of trial Awesomes. Please listen to the OP. Bigger != better in this game. You letting the enemy team have a chance to field a well put together Atlas or Awesome.

The Raven is much worse at scouting than the awesome is at being a fire support platform, as flawed as it is.

True. The only thing the Raven needs to be better than running an Awesome or any of the other Trial mechs is about 10 kph.

As a pugger, I beg you guys, please stop using the Awesome trial mech. You are just hurting your team

I know it's the biggest mech, but bigger does not always equal better. It's just awful:

1) Huge torso hit boxes.
2) Relatively light torso armor.
3) It's SLOW!
4) It counts as an assault mech (80 tons). So the other team will most likely get an Atlas(100 tons) to balance out the teams.
5) Only 12 shots of LRM ammo. So after a minute of firing, you're reduced to a giant slow target with 2 large lasers....

When I see an Awesome on the other team I giggle and rub my hands together with glee.

When there's one or, god forbid, multiple Awesomes on my team, I cry.

Please, please, please. Choose anything else. Try out the Raven and do some scouting. It will help your team much more than driving a free kill like the Awesome.

i often get top damage in my Awesome. those 12 volleys ,if well placed, can soften up 2-3 targets real nice for your buddies. and then you use your lasers to finish them with precision shots; i prefer to from a little over 500m

It's the only usable trial mech, it doesn't overheat and if you make LRM count then it's one of the most "easy" trial mechs so far..

This is kind of a frivolous topic. Really, the Awesome is a pretty good Mech for a trial Mech. Being in closed beta for a while, I played the trial Jenner, trial Hunchback, trial catapult, trial Atlas, trial Raven, trial Centurion and trial Awesome. Won't touch that dragon, though. I've never been a big killer but I got plenty of kills in the Hunchback and Awesome in closed beta. And my only kills have been in the Awesome in open beta. Even racked up 550 damage last night in a match, which I thought was quite respectable for a trial Mech.

I've killed founders Atlas in the trial Awesome. I've also run interference while my team was capping the enemy base I was takin gshots at an Atlas, 2 Hunchbacks, and a TLW. I took a crapload of damage but kept them occupied long enough that we capped and I even lived... wasn't much left of me, only a center torso some legs and a head at the end but I lived and took a punishing amount of damage.

Really, the only Atlas you need to worry about are Gauss Atlas because those guys tend to aim for your head. One guy I was fighting seemed to hit me head no matter how I turned so in 3 shots I was dead. Missile Atlas is like fighting any other missile boat. As long as you're not standing still and are moving, turning, twisting, lasers don't have full effect on 1 location so you can do a lot to make yourself more survivable. Problem I run into is Pugs don't support one another very often so this creates problems in these Atlas v Awesome fights.

With my very limited knowledge, I agree with this post. My only other descent mech is the Cent but it just doesn't have the staying power that the awesome has plus it overheats ALL the time.

Which Trial Mech should we grind on?

.
I ground up C-Bills to start buying back my MECHS with an Awesome (TRIAL) Mech, and I had ZERO issues getting kills, missile support kills, and what not...
.
You must have run into a bunch of newcomers to MWO, don't worry they will figure it out sooner or later.

ReallY??? because out of 30 games last night I lost 2 ...

When used properly the awesome is a great brawler. Soften everything up with LRM's then once ammo is expended go in for the large laser dmg. In no way does this mech hurt your team when its used properly. No its nothing one on one vs an atlas but guess what ... thats what teamwork is for.

And then the Awesome could be so good......but with the trial one I fully agree.
I never understood the crazy small amounts of ammo in those standard builds.
A 2xLRM15 mech needs 4 to 6 tons IMHO.

But then as someone already posted the Raven is even worse.
Because people use it as a 97KPH scout. Whenever I meet one (in my Jenner)
I rub my hands and get on their back...poor newbs I really pitty them and kinda feel bad if I destroy more than 1 in a game.
If there is one on my team I stick to it and wait for all those Commandos and Jenners to come out.
A combined scout force of Ravens and Jenners does work quite well. So in this point not as bad as the AWS.

Finally have a look at the Centurion. The variant with a large and a small laser in the arm....that loadout is just rediculous. Unlike many in the forums I think that the CTN is a quite good mech if you equip a ballistic weapon in the arm. Otherwise it just runs so damn hot.

Trial Awesome is pretty decent in my opinion, and pretty much hate assault mechs (I pilot light and mediums mostly). But I tried it a couple times and got kills and gave as good as I got.

I think the Awesome is probably the best of the current trial mechs. I've had kills and wins with it, although not many of course. It's certainly no match for an Atlas or a custom Awesome, but none of the trial mechs are really capable of going toe to toe with an equivalent class custom mech, so it's certainly no worse than the others. And as other people have pointed out it doesn't overheat often and has a sensible set of weapons.
Personally, I think the trial Raven and Dragon are tied for worst - it takes a good pilot to get real value out of those.

In terms of raw damage, the Awesome is the best due to being able to standoff with the LRMs, then try to get some long range laser hits. The trouble comes in when you get targeted by anything. The Awesome is too slow and unmaneuverable to defend itself. Anything is faster and the armor doesn't last long all that long.

More like an 86KPH scout. If it was 97KPH, it would be much more survivable. As it stands it, cannot outrun most of the heavier mechs.
