I have been playing for months now and do not understand why PGI has yet to put the weapon descriptions into the game?

it should not be a very hard thing to do, like at all. I figured it would be something they would definitely have done by Open Beta.

Without weapon descriptions you are going to have a ton of new plays not knowing what any of the weapons "besides lasers because thats self explanatory" do. Or what their ranges/damage are.

In-fact I have run into a few players that didnt know "LRM" meant long range missile, and thus, thought they were just missiles and could be fired from any distance. So you get players firing LRMS at 50m to the target.

=======

TL;DR: Unless you are a battletech fan or have played previous mechwarrior games, you are going to have no idea what any of the weapon systems actually do. Which is not good if you are trying to promote your game. Especially, in open beta where the huge influx in non-fans will come from.

I believe the primary reason is because they have wanted to tweak and balance the stats for everything before they make stats display in the mechlab. If they do it now, then they will just have to go and modify all those descriptions with every future adjustment they make. It's just more work and more room for error in every patch.

I don't think they were planning for it to take this long to get around to it though. Hopefully soon they will put some more serious balancing work into the weaponry.

It's a fair critique and the brusqueness of his tone is warranted. This is really something that should have been added months ago. Even if it was just place holder text with a very simple explanation and no stats. Simply knowing that an AC5 is a medium ranged cannon would be helpful for new OB players, knowing the UAC5 is a rapid fire cannon that can jam would also be helpful.

Simple anwser. This is not a traditional Open Beta, it is a Public Developmental Beta.

As we are still in developmental beta, weapons descriptions and statistics are still not finalized. Since they aren't finalized, they are not indicated yet in game.

However if you go to the guides section, there are several resources that you can utilize that will provide you with the current statistics for weapons.

That's a cop out answer. The weapon *stats* may not be finalized, but the weapon "descriptions" are taken directly from the lore/TT. Some may be slightly different - like SRMS but the gist is there. More then enough to place basic descriptors in the game. You don't need to have everything hammered out to label LRMs Long Range Missile artillery, AC5s medium range cannons, UAC5s medium ranged automatic cannons etc.

To answer the initial question:

It's not hard to implement, but i guess the devs may think they are to good for such a "low" work, and PGI hasn't enough assistants to do it :D

That`s the exact reason weapon stats should be already in game. So we don`t have to dig through the game files and find out what was changed after every patch. And anyone who has a slightest idea about programming knows that weapon the game already reads weapon values and description from plain text xlm files. It might as well display in mechlab.
This is a proof that PGI is critically understaffed, as even an intern could do it.
Heck, I might even do it myself!

It's not hard to implement. Higher priority items have been in the queue. The work is mostly done and will show up in the next 4~ weeks.
