As a scout, I try to put as much info on chat as I can, but its tough to say more than a couple words when you are running around at 100+kph.

That's why premade has to play versus other premades... So it's fair for everyone.

No i'm refering to the matchmaking who will eventually match teams of 4 max with pugs. and then possiblility for 8 vs 8 but only full teams. So it's fair.

I can usually identify when I'm up against an organized group when the first light I see tags me (that weird little laser that does no damage) and hundreds of LRM's rain down a few seconds later. Or when you see an actual battle line of mechs when you pop over the ridge, and they are all focus firing on one target. You can usually bet someone called out "primary is hotel, secondary is.."
Little hints like that give it away.

Seeing tag, seeing groups populate in game fast, being beaten 8-0 are not proof you are against a group using comms.
As it is right now, without an overt statement in chat or the names all having a similar tag, there is no way to prove a group is playing and any attempts to do so in order to support any opinion about gameplay is pure conjecture.

um, no offense, but pug premades (premades that are not unit based) often have one or more players in the drop not show right away (especially if we are on different continents). this isn't nearly the give away it once was... at least in my experience.
on the OP's original point, taking command implies you have looked at the map and experienced at least a few drops on it that have shown you solid tactics. about the only thing worse for those who follow than a rambo filled pug is a pug with a tactically unprepared (or not yet competent) TACCOM who leads the lot of you into trouble.
as an aside, while i see less of the problems with the map pointers (the ones you can use when you bring up the battle map) now, they can cause lag-like problems for groups with higher pings (and sometimes for those without them). also, remember that most folks will go with just the console map, if you set your waypoints or targets outside of that limited range, you may have trouble communicating what you want the group to do without typing enough to put you or your team at risk.

Sorry, I don't buy into the argument that the game creates unfair matches and/or giving premades some kind of advantage. Their ability to communicate better between themselves is what gives them their advantage. I too have often been on the loosing side of 8-0 matches. However, just because the other team used a much better level of coordination than the team I was on does not mean that they were premades or matches are somehow being set up unfairly. It doesn't matter if this happens 10 times in a row (it has happened to me). That just means I need to get better.... better at commanding like the title of this post states.

Ultimately, I can agree with you that the dev's will likely make software changes to the game to make it "better". I think the single best thing they can do is integrate voice communications directly into the game to make it trivial to set up. Changing the code that determines how matches set up might satisfy your request and some others. However, there will still be players claiming the game is unfair due to one reason or another. That is because the root cause of this isn't a software problem. It's a problem with people and how they perceive their situation.

I'm not complaining, this is exactly the kind of game I wanted and have been waiting for. I'm just struggling with the learning curve. Coordination---inside your mech and with your team mates---is crucial, and that's something I think everyone is figuring out. I'm not sure what PUG means, but at this point I'd definitely be open to taking commands from someone, just as long as I'm surviving.
I've had more success in a Jenner than a Heavy mech.

I hear House Steiner makes you a General with a win ratio that high.
SSSSHHH!!! We don't need any more!
Heh.
Anyway.
If someone knows the map in a pug and has seen tactics that work then by the GODS step up and take command.
I have, several times. We won most of our matches.
Not because I'm some tactical genius, but I was simply calling out A-H. It's better than just wandering off and coming up against 2 Atlas' and a streak cat alone.

I started playing this week... great game... I recently discovered the free community teamspeak servers (today) and they're great. But even before that I had roughly 50% win/loss as a brand new player with 0 experience. (Well tons of battletech but none in this game) so not sure why you'd be at 30%. I even had 13 kills
I do wish there was a bit more to do though. The same maps over and over is going to get old fast. I'm already sick of seeing the one with the volcano.

Yeah well like someone stated in his post. He was probably playing off hours. I have scores like that playing weekdays. But at night it's more like 1 game out of 2.And since a lot of founders are taking out their tags recently. You can't say anymore. You can tell. But can't say for sure when you got stomped.and anyway new matchmaking system is getting on today. I was'nt making an assumption they would change matchmaking... I know they are.

None of these requires much in the way of comms and become second nature once you're more familiar with the game. I played a couple of PUG games last night where the groups did all this automatically and it played well. We would still have lost to a team of eight on comms, but it would have not been a walkover. I ended up in an LRM Awesome, paired up with very good player in a PPC or ERPPC Awesome, both of us bringing up the rear behind the heavies and mediums with the scouts out in front. The awesome duo (see what I did there) sat at the back zapping opposing mechs occupied by the scouts and medium/heavy mechs in front. Nothing very clever but it's a serviceable strategy for most games.
Conversely, if you see the blue arrows on the map start to wander off on their own then you know it's virtually all over at that point

PUGs need all of the help they can get. I PUG too and I need all of the help I can get
I game will be so much better once C3 is integrated for PUGs and the Command functionality will be more robust and easier to use. I CANNOT WAIT!!
