COVER-(the bane of indirect fire)
1-Know where it is near you, dont stop on open field, stop behind partial cover and a probable enemy position
2- If it is not at least about 2 story above your mechs head you are going to eat LRMs
3-When advancing , move from cover to cover, those who stroll on open field get spoted faster, make better targets and are farther from efective cover.
4- a good way to force LRM boats out of position is to move out of cover, take a potshot at their CT(center torso) and then retreat behind cover as their missiles splash harmlessly on the building between you two.Repeat until he gives up position or gives up his core.
BATTLEFIELD AWARENESS
1- As you cross this corner fullspeed ahead what is on the other side?are you exposing yourself to LRM fire while you do it? Are there 4 enemy mechs waiting for the first target to present himself?
If your answer is "I dont know" then dont commit. You help your team more alive.
If your answer is "I dont care" be prepared to melt in 1 sec to 8 vs 1 focus fire coming from anywhere.
2- Do not over commit! Dont chase that retreting enemy too far back or you might find yourself in the situation 1 above.
(This happens because retreating is realy punishing in this game, if you walk backwards out of danger you are slower, so you spend more time getting shot at by the enemy. If you turn your back you are exposing your weakest point to the enemy.)
3- Dont move more than 1 grid away from the rest of your team.
(Adding your firepower to the mix is the whole point here. Plus a Team that moves togeder dificults focus fire from the enemy as the focused mech can retreat behind his friends forcing the focus to change.)
4-Know your role.
Are the LRM boats being attacked? Are you in a medium? Then thats your mission right now.
Your team is getting spoted by a Light moving out of their range? Are you in a light? Thats your mission.
Are you in a LRM Boat and you see a Assault charging in the open?
***GOLDEN*** Your team is fighting and then you base begins to get capped. A light mech should handle that and ask for help if he needs it. Your whole team does not need to turn back to base and their backs to the enemy.
5-THE MINIMAP IS YOUR FRIEND
DISSIPATING DAMAGE ON ARMOR
1- If you always give your enemy the oportunity to pick his shots he will always hit you where you are weakest. Then you will live a very short life.
Learn to recognize which section the enemy wants to take out and learn how to protect it by twisting your upper body between your shots in a way it distributes damage over other parts of your armor.
2- Dont be stationary in a fire fight. Make yourself hard to hit on the same spot twice.By circling your enemy you protect the side of your mech that is "outside" the circle, this is great to protect DAMAGED LEGS.
3-Dont be predictable.
Dont always go 100% throtle while brawling . Vary your speed an you break that Gausscat timming.
Change your direction drastically and that laser will only hit partially.
Are you almost cored? Hide behind a friendly so that he absorps some damage.
SHOOTING THE ENEMY
1- If your teammate is shooting mech number one, you should also shoot mech number one.
Always try to create a 2vs1 scenario.
2- Shoot where the enemy is weakest. No armor left on the right torso? Make it a priority to take it out.
3- If you are facing a treat bigger than you(medium vs assaut) first try to diminish their firepower and then focus on killing him.Or creeple them and retreat if you dont wanna risk it.
4-If your mech is faster then your oponent's you should always control the RANGE in which the battle takes place. You can use a "S " movement to do that if he is charging you head on.
5- If a enemy overheats in front of you and you are sporting a high damage/one spot hitting weapon(gauss,AC20,etc) go for the cockpit on that awesome! Its an fast way to dispose of people that dont get heat management right.
This was suposed to be way shorter. Hope it helps anyway

Know your opponent. It helps to try out several different types of 'mechs so that when you face one you are more likely to know it's strengths and weaknesses.

Nah, that's cool. The more advice we can give, the better. With all the posts about how unfriendly the game is to new players, I am hoping they will read threads with this kind of advice. The only way to get better is to play and develop strategys and play styles. Farming is stupid and doesn't make for a better pilot. Playing the game and utilizing strategy does.
