well i never found it myself. i set my logitech driver to lowest sensitivity and it wasn't enough so i had to use the windows settings to lower it further. :/

I forgot where I found this (apologies to the original author), but you can add the following to your user.cfg file:

i_mouse_smooth = 0
i_mouse_accel=0
cl_sensitivity = 0.5

The last one is sensitivity, 0 is lower, 1 is higher. I believe 1 is the default. So you can change it to suit your needs. (I don't know what the other two do, but they were in the other thread, so I kept them.)

I use the windows setting to turn my dpi down. My MX revolution though has 2 dpi settings though so I toggle between them, One seeting for normal scrolling and one for in game. My in game setting is about 3 or 4 clicks from the bottom viving a better feel for aiming. Unfortunately this setting is completely unusable out of the game because it literallly requires me to throw my mouse across the table to get from one side of the screen to the other hence the need for 2 dpi settings

how is this still not in the game? HUGE oversight

guess they are too busy designing more hero mechs and paint patterns

I also use the user.cfg entries.

would be nice if they put it in settings, and massively lower the default value. Will massively improve the aim of the average player.

it would be really cool if they would reimplement, what they had in closed beta when i started playing in october or so.
when you toggled your zoom, the mouse sensitivity lowered, too.
right now the sensitivity is just too high to aim properly at longer distances.

perhaps make it toggleable in the options menu.

Thanks for the info. As a new player (just 2 days), I've been struggling with spastic crosshairs. And as most new players I've been spectating way more than I'd like (partly from craptastic aiming). I've noticed a big difference in the aiming characteristics of different player (while watching their game play -- spectating). I was afraid it was an unlockable ability or worse yet do to real-world hardware. Now that I know there is someway to smooth out the crosshair movement I hopefully won't have to abandon the game. Thanks again. Love the mechwarrior/battltech community. (Commas omitted for brevity --lol).

Okay, I don't feel so dumb now. I was having a terrible time staying on target because my crosshair seemed so touchy. Anyone who has ever played against me has probably seen me whip my mech torso around like I'm insane and shoot the sky and such. I'll adjust my config file next time I play. w00t! :P

i_mouse_accel=0

I've found that's the most important setting. With accel turned on my cursor flies off the screen if i just look at my mouse. Waaaaaaay too much acceleration.

I have tested this by adding it to my ( previously empty) user.cfg file and it works great.
Note: you can alter cl_sensitivity value and test it in the Training Grounds! But you have to restart the game for the changes to take affect. If you normally have a very fast mouse setting you could set it much lower for good sniping ability.

yes, this is crazy there is still nothing to change mouse sensitivity in-game while the option exist in the .cfg

You can't expect players to edit .cfg and adapt it after each patch. My custom ;cfg keep causing crashes and graphics bugs.

I also cannot believe this option isn't built into the game yet. I would argue that adding this feature into the game's options would have overall better impact on the new player experience than anything else.

I've been using :

cl_sensitivity = 0.6
i_mouse_accel = 0
i_mouse_accel_max = 0
i_mouse_smooth = 0

I can't believe there's no option to change the sensitivity in game.

I started playing this game a couple of days ago and the game seems great but I've been slaughtered in every single match with usually less than 100 damage done because I can't aim the weapons with any reliable accuracy at all. The reticule just won't move smoothly and either does nothing with small imputs or flies everywhere with larger imputs and my mouse is one with no way to change its own sensitivity. In long range engagements by the time I can get my reticule on target I've already been nailed by half the enemy team and with the movement over the undulating terrain of my own mech I just can't hit anything on the move.

I looked in the options for mouse settings and found no way to change it so basically uninstalled the game there and then after just half a days play as being constantly annihilated and feeling useless every match just killed my interest. Not to mention many matches where the minimap was either blank or stuck in the wrong direction.

I like the game in theory overall as I used to play Battletech many years ago in London Uk's tracadero when they had the rather awesome mech cockpit pods for you to sit in. I really do want to like this game but without a way to get my aim working I can't see me bothering to play as just an easy target for enemies.

I did a web search for mouse sensitivity today after some cool down time from the frustrations of the other day and this thread came up so I'm hopeful that maybe I might reinstall and can work a way around it. I'm not even sure I want to get into changing settings that only change on a game restart though as I could potentially screw it up even worse and take forever to make minor changes that simple sliders in game could do instantly. That's not a good way to introduce new players to the game.

There's no real quick tutorial or place for new players to learn the ropes vs each other, you just seem get thrown to the wolves straight away with awful trial mechs and in my case no reliable way to aim even the small amount of weapons you have.

I was honestly looking in the controls for some sort of auto lock on target function to understand why people's aim feels so much more reliable than my own then just figured oh, it's because my mouse is'nt working smoothly.

So I reinstalled the game but I can't see a user.cfg file in the locations I've seen it mentioned it should be.

I go into Piranha games, mechwarrior online but then there's no user.cfg there, it has user as a file folder containing profiles and shaders. Any ideas?

Greetings Migwelder,

Reference your mouse, you haven't stated what type or model of mouse it is. Cabled or wireless, optical, laser or ball.
Have you installed the drivers for said mouse, do you use any software for "profiles" of the mouse. (gaming software)

As a note, most current mice have company software that will allow for "setup" of specific items on the mouse, i.e.; buttons, speed, precision. And this is separate from the Windows standard stuff.

If you can't get something to work, we need info on just what it is to advise you. And as you has expressed, you see others (spectate view) that do not appear to have similar issues.

Ps; after any adjusting always go to the "testing grounds" first to check the use. Better than as you say "thrown to the wolves".

[I run a G700 Logitech and have DPI setting buttons "on the fly" ability, 1000 for the mech lab and down to 250 for in game weapons sniping.[5 setting configurable all the way to 5700DPI if needed]

later,
9erRed
